Potbelly Sandwich Shop Review

Do you like sandwiches? I popped in a really cute sandwich shop, called Potbelly Sandwich Shop (Montgomery Rd. Cincinnati, OH) the other day. It's slightly on the same order of Subway (where someone prepares your sandwich). What I found so FABULOUS about Potbelly's were their salads, milkshakes, and smoothies. You could actually taste the bananas in their banana smoothie (so good). They also have cute inside and outside decor (vintage pictures, planes & paraphernalia fill the shop). I bet you're asking, " well what about the sandwiches Kim? It is a SANDWICH shop!" Welllllll...I ordered their grilled chicken & cheddar sandwich w/lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and mustard on multi-grain wheat bread. Everything was nice, except the bread. It was really dry. I knew it would be a firm bread, but I didn't expect it to be crumbly & dry. I should've known something when the young lady making the sandwiches kept asking if I would like to try their flat-bread. She mentioned it like 3 times (which I thought was a lot! HaHaHa). Me not taking the clue, said "no I want the multi-grain wheat bread". I should've gone with the flat-bread! LOL Their regular bread looked as dry as their wheat bread (while standing there). Maybe I had an old batch of bread. Not sure. Anyway, Potbelly Sandwich Shops are in Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington (State), Washington DC, and Wisconsin. If you've eaten at one, please tell me your experience. Besides the bread, everything else was lovely! But because they are a SANDWICH shop, I had to rate them lower.

  1. Hi Kim! What a shame the bread was that dry! Only from the pic the sandwich looks so delicious! You know, Im addicted to sandwiches and have lots of fantasy on how fill the bread lol:P The place and the decor is very nice too. Have a lovely day and July my dear Kim! Hugs! xo

  2. Aw man, that sucks that the bread was crumbly. Then again, I never get whole wheat because I feel like for the most part, that type of bread is just dry and crumbly anyway. Aha, I've always had trouble trying to be healthy...
Other than that, the sandwich shop looks super cute! Too bad they don't have one in Idaho, I'd love to try it :)

  6. From your photo the sandwich looks absolutely delicious both fresh and plenty of filling but it's no good if the bread is dry since this is one of the main features of a sandwich and a top priority! We have Subway over here but I've not heard of Potbelly before. Have a great week!

  9. Shame about this place doll, it sounds great. I don't like when the bread is dry or tough as it makes the thing hard to eat. Looks great though. They have one in Michigan too, had never been to one. Hope you are well doll xx

  10. Shame the bread was so bad, as it looks delicious otherwise! :) Hopefully just a bad batch!

  11. I love Subway. I haven't heard of Potbelly though. Maybe it's not yet here in the Philippines. Too bad about the bread, I like wheat bread and I prefer it over white.

  13. Hahaha....Kim, flat bread is the answer!
And the name of the place would've enticed me to go in and try it. How can you go wrong with anything that says "Potbelly"?

  19. Lol abt the flatbread hint, i'd have totally missed that too. We have them here, and the bread was just as dry here. Hubby got the milkshake to go with his sandwich. He said the milkshake was the only thing worth going back for. My meal was so so; needless to say, we havent been back since.

  20. We totally have Potbelly in NYC and I've tried it. I also found their multi-grain bread to be dry and crumbly so I don't think you got a bad batch. Their pizza sandwich is yummy though despite the lackluster bread. I usually pick half the bread off my sandwiches so it wasn't such a bother to me. I'll have to try their smoothies and salads since you think they were better. Thanks for the review Kim!

  23. Ha ha Kim, that girl behind the counter was trying to tell you to get the flatbread! I probably wouldn't have clued in, either :) Everything looks delicious except for the bread - it's a shame to put good sandwich fillings in dry bread. But I'd definitely pay a visit for one of their smoothies, they look great!

  24. I LOVE potbelly's! I have not been there in about 7 1/2 years though. I remember because the last time that I ate there, was the day of my job interview with my current job. I don't remember if I have ever had any of their salads, but I used to get a turkey sand which all of the time. I don't remember if it was dry, but they used to toast them, so maybe I never noticed? I love the little cookie on the shakes though!

  37. Ah--sorry to hear you had a bad experience at Potbelly, Kim. I've eaten at the one in Columbus several times (back when my son was at OSU). It was pretty good -- but I was eating a salad versus a sandwich. Mark never cared too much for Potbelly, though. He may have had that day-old bread, too. ;) xx T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  51. Hi Kim!!! Thanks a lot for your comment, I just read it and came back to you straight away - my internet connection is also terrible since I moved to Dublin so I haven't spent that much time online, which is also verynice when the sun is shining outside :)

So nice to hear that you're on the road (that explains your more sporadic blogging hehe). I'm curious about what you're doing!

Nice place, but pity about the bread. I'm not a big fan of fry bread either, although that's the usual bread we have in Spain. So growing up all my sandwich were made with dry bread and I would leave a trail of crumbles after me :p

Enjoy your time off, hope you're having a nice summer xoxo
