Kylie Jenner came out with a special Limited Birthday Edition collection (no longer available, except for maybe eBay) of makeup to commemorate her birthday. Her paper insert inside the package stated: "It's my Birthday! I wanted to do something special for you guys to help me celebrate..." I'll share my thoughts on that statement later. As a makeup collector, I love special edition makeup collections. They're usually unique, one-of-a-kind and only a few people have them. This collection contained a makeup bag with Kylie's signature lip logo on it, a mini set of her popular matte lipsticks (it was offered at a great price, but I had most of them) and a Kylie shadow/eyeliner. I passed on all of those! The construction/material of the makeup bag, looked like a school back pack! I couldn't imagine paying $42 for it. I did purchase a few things, that I thought I would like. This collection contained METAL shades (which I love) and a VAMP color. So how did this makeup party turn out? Let's see...
Sweet-Bittersweet-NotSweet
supersweet(run & buy it) sweet(really good,buy it) bittersweet(ok, issues)not sweet(not good,don't buy this stuff)
Kylie Birthday Edition Poppin Gloss is Sweet
Kylie Birthday Edition Lord Metal Matte Lipstick is Sweet
Kylie Birthday Edition Copper Creme Shadow is Supersweet
Kylie Birthday Edition Leo Matte Liquid Lipstick is Bittersweet
Kylie Birthday Edition - Poppin Gloss
I purchased Kylie's matte lipstick shades when she first started her makeup line. But since then, I've fallen out of love with her mattes (mainly due to their formula) and more in love with her glosses & metals. Poppin gloss is a beautiful gold that's build-able. It can be used as a topper or alone. I love her glosses because they're not sticky and they last a really long time. I really like Poppin and plan on mixing it with Lord below :)
Kylie Birthday Edition - Lord Metal Matte Liquid Lipstick
Lord is a beautiful bronze-y gold, coppery color! Kylie does a great job with metal lipsticks. I'm always impressed with the coverage and how even they apply. They don't settle into fine lines. They're not tacky or drying. I love this color alone and plan on topping it with Poppin above.
Kylie Birthday Edition - Copper Creme Shadow
Popular items in the collection were her Creme Shadows. This is the copper shade, but she also came out with a rose gold shade (which I didn't get). She has stated she plans on coming out with more of these and I think she should. They're really gorgeous. I think she should make the copper and rose gold permanent. They're staple colors many enjoy.
Kylie Birthday Edition - Leo Matte Liquid Lipstick
Lastly, we have LEO! Obviously her birth sign. Leo is a vamp, vamp, vampy shade! HaHaHa It comes off more purple on me, but more deep red on others. I love the look Leo gave me below. I wear vamp makeup well, but let me tell you LEO is HARD TO APPLY. I have 3 coats on my lips below and the reason for it, is it applies streaky (look at my hand). And you better have a stable hand, because if you mess up, it's a PAIN to fix. If you don't apply this right, you risk having that "stained"..."i just ate cherries" or "wine stain" look. You definitely need the lip liner, not only to outline your lips but also to fill in. Leo dries fast! So apply with care and you may have to add 2 more layers as I did to get an EVEN LOOK. Once everything is in place, it's beautiful and it stays...but you cannot be in a rush when applying this. I much prefer applying
Dose of Colors Corset (it was also limited edition). But I love THE LOOK of Leo. I have another purple matte lipstick of Kylie's (forgot to review). I'll have to do that soon.
I was very pleased with all of my purchases (except for the formula of Leo ... even though I like the look). I'm constantly hearing how her mattes are different from when she first started her line. So I've stayed away. I hope she makes the matte colors available in glosses & metals (which I prefer). I think the only thing that perturbed me with this collection was the exorbitant cost of the makeup bag and the way Kylie continuously makes getting her products so difficult. She offered this collection 3-4 times, but some people still didn't get anything. The hysteria of it all is crazy! Offer a pre-sale and everyone can get what they want. But I guess she lives for the hype! It's crazy. But what do I know. LOL Those are my thoughts you guys.
I have been itching to try something from Kylie Cosmetics but with so many local (from the Philippines) good dupes available, I can't find it in my heart to spend so much. I'm interested to try out the metallic ones most. xD

I've only tried a gloss from Kylie's line since my friend let me borrow hers one night. I definitely want to try more of her glosses! I've just been hesitant to buy her mattes as well.

They all look so lovely on you Kim - both the glosses are gorgeous!

Kim, you really do know how to pull off that vamp look. Dayum, girl! That Leo looks so gorgeous on you! Well, they all look great on you, really.:) But yeah....I hate how her products are sooooooo hard to get. I know that's probably good for her and her business, but it would be nice to actually be able to pick up her products with no hassle, you know?
ReplyDeleteWow! that metallic cream lip shade looks gorge on you, Kim. You certainly can rock that look.

I've been seeing swatches of her cream shadows and they really do look beautiful. I don't own any of her makeup- personally, I'm not one to stay glued to the computer trying to maybe get something in 30 seconds before it sells out. But some of the products look really nice. And that's too bad about Leo- you look amazing in it!

I have to say, these Kylie products and their popularity continues to surprise me. While I do think the metallic shadows look lovely, considering the price and how hard these products are to actually get, I can't think how purchasing anything from the collection would feel like it was worth my time and effort in the end. But I'm obviously in the minority...! I do love the Leo shade on you Kim, although what you described is precisely why I stay away from colours like that, my hand is not steady enough at all ;)

Bummer that the matte formula of the Leo made it so difficult to apply. The deep vampy shade looks gorgeous on you Kim. I think it's all a big marketing ploy that they make these products so hard to get ahold off but I guess they do it because they can get away with it.
ReplyDeleteI've been holding back from buying anything from her line but each post I see tempts me a little bit more. Those metallic lip glosses are gorgeous and that eye shadow sounds like a dream! The swatch is gorgeous!

I really wanted to get my hands on Leo and the mini matte kit. But I've heard from so many others, and now you, that Leo is hard to work with. Kinda glad I didn't get it. It's a beautiful color though...I hope someone finds a good dupe for it.
ReplyDeleteI also want to try her glosses, good to hear that they are worth it. They look gorgeous on you!

Leo looks absolutely beautiful on you, Kim but shame about the formula. I personally don't buy anything from her but I know many are huge fans of her makeup line.

I love all the lip colors on you Kim! Leo is stunning, too bad it's hard to apply! So pretty for fall though! The cream shadow looks gorgeous! I would be annoyed on how hard her products are to get too!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the way both the metallic and vampy lippies look on you, they look SO good! You know, I've always wondered if those of you who are real makeup lovers and collect limited edition collections, do you use them sparingly? I'd be so hesitant to use them b/c they're limited, haha. The collection, overall, looks great and I love the choice of colors and finishes. I also love that she handwrites her message, it makes it more intimate, even though they're copies and I think her fans really appreciate that. I personally feel that out of all her sisters who have created collections, she seems more passionate about it, like she's found her niche. Anyway, thanks so much for sharing, gorgeous, and I hope you're having a great week so far!

The liquid metallic lipstick does look great! I'm sure Kylie limits the collections to build up hype which is also why I won't bother, haha. I'd like to try the lipsticks but am not willing go all out for them!
ReplyDeleteThose metallics look so fun Kim! It's a shame about that Leo formula not being the best to put on as it's such a nice colour on you too.

I must admit, I was tempted by the Birthday Collection, most specifically the Poppin' lipstick. It would look great in the middle of the lips or as a topper!

Lord looks so pretty! That sucks Leo didn't work out. The cream eyeshadows look goregous! I just agree that her stuff is SO over priced...that is why I haven't purchased anything.
ReplyDeleteThe cream eyeshadow looks so pretty! I love copper shades on the eyes. Leo is such a pretty color, so it's too bad that the formula's hard to work with. You got some great items! These colors are super unique!
ReplyDeleteI've been seeing all the hype and her snapchat about the birthday collection but I've been refusing to buy them, haha but Im loving the gold shades! and I love the Leo vamp shade! looks good! I dont know if I would buy them (anti Kardashian/Jenner, lol) but It has been tempting to get some of the really nice shades that I like!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing! xo

This blog post had me drooling because everything looks so good! I love limited edition makeup too. Leo looks AMAZING on you. It is such a pity that it is bittersweet. I love the way the cream eyeshadow looks. I love metallics on the eyes. xoxo
ReplyDeleteI adore that creamy bronze shadow! On your lips I like the gloss and the dark burgundy shade you are rocking in the last picture!
