The Benefits of Lip Balm

THE BENEFITS OF USING LIP BALM

Lips - without them, we would have trouble with the simplest everyday tasks such as speaking, eating, and, of course, kissing. But how do we take care of them? That's easy, just glide on some lip balm to protect and pamper your lips (and some other areas of your body too!) Lip balm has many benefits, ranging from trivial to necessary.

1. PREVENT CHAPPED LIPS

This is the most important benefit of using lip balm. The skin on your lips is exceptionally thin, and, unlike the skin on the rest of your body, it cannot produce oils for protection against the elements. Therefore, it is much more susceptible to breakdown. Lip balm, which consists of a moisturizer and a sealant, provides protection from the harsh wind and low temperatures that cause chapped lips.

2. PREVENT SKIN CANCER

Lip skin contains no melanin, meaning there is no natural protection from the sun's cancer-causing UVA AND UVB rays. Many lip balms come with an SPF of 15 to 30 to help protect the lips from skin cancer.

3. PRODUCE SOFTER LIPS

The moisturizers used in lip balm help to restore damage to your lips by penetrating the skin and repairing from the inside out. Lip balm also creates a barrier on your lips, preventing cracks and sores from occurring as easily and resulting in exceedingly smooth lips.

4. CREATE A YOUTHFUL LOOK

Many lipsticks and lip glosses boast a special ingredient that plumps lips, but all you really need is lip balm. Using lip balm every day will lock moisture into your lips, making them appear fuller and plumper. Plump lips translate to a youthful appearance.

5. (BONUS USE!) SOOTHE AN IRRITATED NOSE

We've all had a terrible cold fully equipped with sniffles and sneezes. After a day or two of blowing and wiping your nose, the skin around it can get quite sore. To stimulate healing, simply put some lip balm on your finger and apply lightly to the sore area.

6. (BONUS USE!) HEAL CRACKED FINGERTIPS

Fingers can get so dry in the winter, that they can actually crack and split. This obviously makes everyday tasks, such as driving and writing, painful. To promote healing and prevent further dryness, apply a layer of lip balm to your fingertips twice a day.

  3. Lip balm is such a must-have, even if you don't wear makeup! I got lip balm for Christmas from my mother and my mother in law, so I'm glad I have enough now to keep it everywhere. I always need it too, and now I'm surprised if I find myself without it. lol

  4. Such great reasons for wearing lip balm! Lately, it's all I've really been able to wear because with my pregnancy, chapped lips have been an occurring thing. It was really bad the first couple of months, it got better, and now it got worse again, so no bold lip colors for me, mainly lip balm and very nude lipstick :) Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend ahead!

  10. I definitely cannot live without lip balm! I totally use to use chapstick on the ends of my nose when I had a cold. It would work wonderful when it was all red and raw from being sick. Now I use an ointment of aquafor, but I also use those as lip balms haha!

  13. I have very full lips so I always have to make sure my lips stay moisturised. I get dry lips easily and carry lip balm with me where ever I go. When I was a child I used to lick my lips alot which did a lot of damage around my mouth. Thankfully I grew out of that bad habit ;-) Great post Kim. xxxx

  23. I have SO much love for lip balm, and for many of the reasons you've mentioned! As well as using on the lips, great advice to use it on crapped fingertips. And I find it's really helpful around the nose during/after a cold too :)

  28. I can't live without lip balms. I tend to store it everywhere! I love them so much - everyone around me started using them more often because I keep on telling how good they are. However my husband is better ads for lipbalms - I dunno why but his lips always look better than mine.
I mostly use local brand - it makes my lips look super healthy and has 35 sph

  29. Very informative post. I've never thought of applying lip balm on my fingers in winter, but it is a great idea. Right now I'm using labello...that is my most frequent choice when it comes to lip balms.

I didn't know that most balms contain protection against the sun. That's an useful piece of information.

    Have a great weekend!

  31. What would you recommend as your most moisturizing lip balm? I've been using the eos balls during the day and vaseline in the evenings but my lips (while not terrible) still aren't free of cracking.
