Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour Palette ($49) - Supersweet
I understand why everyone raved about Kat Von D's Shade Light Contour Palette. It's really good. This is the powder version. There's now both a cream & powder version (that you can customize). Her website offers 3 contour shades and 3 highlight shades. Pick and choose what works for you! All 6 shades worked for me and gave me a natural looking contour. They really blend well and define the face beautifully. I'm interested in trying her cream contour.
Lorac Pro Contour Palette ($45) - Sweet
Another really good contour palette is Lorac's Pro Contour Palette. 3 highlighters and 3 contour shades are also offered in this palette, but all the shades didn't work for me. I used the medium contour and both the beige & shimmer highlight in my look below. So I think for many, you'll only use 1/2 of this palette. It's really pigmented and comes with a great brush & mirror, but again the shade choices limit you.
Too Faced Cocoa Contour ($42) - Supersweet
This contour palette really surprised me! I didn't expect a lot from it, but it's really good! Too Faced gives you 3 contour shades and 1 highlight shade, but I use the light contour under my eyes and as a highlight. So I pretty much have 2 contour shades and 2 highlighters with this palette. I found the shades easy to blend with my makeup. It comes with a great mirror and brush. For anyone that doesn't want a heavy duty contour, but just wants to do some shading this is great. It's a great everyday contour palette.
ISH Contour Kit Light/Medium ($32) - Sweet
This was gifted to me! Thank you Rowena of Rolala Loves Blog! And what a great little palette. It contains a highlighter, blush, bronzer and contour shade. As a contour it's very lightweight. Great for everyday! The real razamataz is the highlighter, blush and bronzer. It gives you a wonderful glow and shockingly that pink blush looked good on me.
Marc Jacobs #Instamarc Mirage Filter 40 Contour ($49) - Bittersweet
Overall, I haven't had much luck with Marc Jacobs makeup EXCEPT FOR HIS LIPSTICKS! Love them! When I swatched this I knew I was doomed. LOL There are actually 3 of these you can choose from. Maybe I picked the wrong one. LOL This one didn't work for my skin tone. It just kind of blended in and didn't contour at all. Oh well :S It's a very classy palette. Sleek in design. Great mirror. I would definitely swatch this before buying. It didn't do anything for me.
Hi Kim, at first, I must ask you how do you manage to write a post daily? I think you are great. Now about the products, all products have attractive packaging but I love the Kat Von D Shade so much. It really sounds amazing. Great job dear <3<3 Have a happy Monday!! Kisses <3

This is definitely something I would love to give a go. I would like to start investing more in makeup and beauty products, and I feel like this would be a good place to start.

I'm so impressed you've reviewed all of your makeup Kim, it's incredible! Especially for someone with such an awesome collection like yours! Your reviews are always so helpful and interesting too - even though I don't contour I read this with interest, you write so well :)

I'm forever in awe of your makeup collection Kim! Too Faced's Cocoa Contour palatte sounds as though it performs really well (you look so lovely!). I don't know very much at all about contouring, but I've been dipping my toe in the water later and can see what a difference it makes! Thanks for the recommendation :) Have a lovely week ahead!

I have to say - I never give that much thought to contouring until I see someone do it well and suddenly I think, wow, I have to learn to do it myself! I am amazed by the results that you achieve with every single one of these palettes, Kim. You have amazing contouring skills!

I have the Kat Von D Powder version and I really like it. The highlight colors really highlight my face. Often, the powders are too dark for me. The contour/bronzer shades blend so easily. Great post!

Except for the Marc Jacobs one, these all sound like a winner, Kim! Thanks for the reviews. Imma have to get my hands on that Kat Von D one. I've never tried any of her makeup...can you believe it!?!?! You look fab btw with that dark lippie:)
ReplyDeleteWow you have a great collection Kim! The Too Faced palette sounds especially lovely, I like that it's not a huge palette, and I suspect it smells like cocoa as well? :D Marc Jacobs products have always been hits for me, so it's a shame that their stuff (and contour) were misses for you. I do like their sleek packaging though! Thanks for sharing these!

Of all those, I want the KVD the most!! It looks so good and I always hear amazing things. I recently won and sold the cream version lol. I'm just not a cream contour girl.

Way to power through those reviews Kim! You have such a fabulous makeup collection! The Too Faced Cocoa Contour looks so good! I'm really glad the ISH Contour Kit worked out. I had a feeling that pink would look amazing on you. You always have a way of pulling off almost any shade :D
ReplyDeleteI’ve always had my eye on the KVD and Lorac contour palettes! The Too faced one looks nice too. I almost bought one of those Marc Jacob ones a few years ago during the Sephora vib sale! I really wanted one but felt unsure if any of the shades would look good on my skin tone. Thanks for sharing Kim!
ReplyDeleteI only have few couple contour palettes. I just got the KVD one when it was on sale at TJ Maxx. I haven't used it that much. I'm not great at contouring but I need to give it a try.
ReplyDeleteI don't have much experience with contour palettes. I like my contour to look natural and not heavy duty. I prefer powder contour over cream contour products. I would definitely purchase the Too Faced palette. Inlove that it is natural and looks great on you Kim. Beauty fanatics rave about the Kat Von D palette. That seems to be a winner in the market. It looks lovely on you too.
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the Marc Jacobs.. it looks so nice and the packaging is so luxe!
ReplyDeleteeven I heard about Kat Von D contour palette...and I must say it sounds great. It does look nice on you, from what I can see, it seems lovely. I haven't tried contouring yet myself so I probably won't be getting one anytime soon but maybe some time in the future.
ReplyDeleteYikes, how unfortunate the Marc Jacobs shade was so lackluster!
ReplyDeleteI really want to get the KVD Shade and Light palette.

I was planning on purchasing the Marc Jacobs one, but glad I didn't!! Many great options you have for contouring and a few that I will look into instead
