Who is Yayoi Kusama? When I first read about the Louis Vuitton Collaboration between Marc Jacobs and Yayoi Kusama, the first thing I asked myself was... Who is Yayoi Kusama? HaHaHa
You guys, this is why I love blogging! We're always learning through others, but there are times when we should be self-teachers (we should look further, discover, research, and find answers to our own questions).
Well, after digging a little deeper, I found out Kusama is a 83 year old Japanese artist and writer. She's known for her whimsical dot motifs in her artistry and she's had a number of exhibitions across Asia, Europe and here in the States.
When I first saw a picture of her, I swear I said, "Who is this cute little elderly lady, dressed up like Minnie Mouse!" HaHaHa Now, I know better! HaHaHa So, I want you guys to know it's ok NOT to know, but always try and find the answers to your questions. That's how you LEARN and GROW! I'm sharing what I've learned with YOU today! Here's a short story about her life (turn on CC before viewing):
The Collaboration! Marc Jacobs' goal while at Louis Vuitton is to collaborate with various artists. He admires Kusama's artistry and loves contemporary art. He states, "For many people who don't look at art or go to galleries, or maybe
they're not aware of Kusama's work, there will be a new venue, a new
place to see this work and to come to appreciate it through the eyes of
Louis Vuitton." (source)
The Collection! Marc Jacobs has put together a collection that celebrates the spirit of her works. Louis Vuitton fully funded the venture. You know money is involved! I hope Kusama is getting her fair share. The collection includes shoes, bathing suits, dresses, trench coat, charms, and more. Everything hit stores yesterday (July 10th) here in the States. It will be available in stores all around the world July 19th. I'm loving the really LARGE totes! I don't even want to look at the prices. HaHaHa
I am really looking forward to this collection! I'm so sad we have to wait until after the US gets it first!
ReplyDeleteI have my eye on a few accessories - as much as I love the shoes too I know they will definitely be over my shoe budget!!!

ReplyDeleteThis looks like it's going to be a really FUN collaboration. Her style is so eclectic and cute.
I featured her in an art inspired post awhile back and am so glad she's finally getting some global recognition again (she hasn't has much since the 70s). I'm truly happy for her! Plus her ideas are so cool and fun. So glad you profiled her too.
