Last week, when I ordered my Benefit cosmetics from Sephora (look for a review this Friday), Sephora stated that I had accumulated points and could get something FREE. Well, I chose a deluxe sample of the Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara. It claims to give your lashes more volume and curl. After trying it, I'm really impressed. So here is my Sweet or Not review of it.
Sweet - Bittersweet - Not Sweet
Lancome Hypnose Star Mascara is SWEET
Product Description: A mascara that provides ultra-volume at the lash line for a sensuous curve from root to tip. This mascara dresses lashes in intense volume, unfolding a new vision
of glamour inspired by Betty Boop and top model Daria Werbowy. The
formula's "black-diamond effect" imparts a glossy gel-like finish. The
dual-action brush has a flat side for optimizing product deposit at the
lash line while the rounded side separates, defines, and lengthens.
- Awesome Brush- I love the curves of this brush and the bristles are really soft. So it doesn't tug or pull at your lashes.
- No Clumping - This mascara is really smooth. I didn't experience any clumping or spider effects.
- Fabulous Lengthening and Thickening -As you can see from the before and after photos, I have lashes but they don't stand out. My lashes are also very sparse at the bottom. So this really helped fill them in.
- Cute Packaging - Don't marketer's know how to get you with the packaging. HaHa I don't mind it, as long as the product works. This does!
Cons:
- Availability - This mascara is only available at Sephora. I don't usually wear mascara, but after trying this I really need to. I definitely saw a difference. If this was a marketing attempt by Lancome to lure you in, it worked for me.
- Price - The price is nothing to sneeze at! Unlike other cosmetics, you have to get rid of mascara more frequently. So to shell out $28 especially in these economic times for mascara is not necessarily economical in my opinion. If you wear mascara EVERY day, then go for it. Maybelline Great Lash has always been my mascara standby and I don't have to spend as much.
- Great Reviews - It gets really great reviews from customers on Sephora's website. I like reading those.
Hey this is such an awesome review! I was just looking for a new mascara since I just threw mine away. I will definitely be checking this one out!

Great review! I am on the hunt for new mascara, but I don't want to make a special trip to Sephora or pay $28! My favorite mascara so far has been from Smashbox. Heather
ReplyDeleteI'm sold on this mascara - it makes such a difference in the before and after photos! :)
ReplyDeleteI really need new mascara, mine is a bit lumpy, thanks for the reminder :)

Hahah, wow, I haven't seen anything related to Betty Boop for a while now. What a wonderful idea by them to bring back such a great cartoon icon.
ReplyDeleteThe mascara looks really wonderful! I don't usually wear make-up, but I do appreciate a good product when I see one. :)

I too wear Great Lash everyday! I'm not sure I'd shell out $28 for mascara, even though I'm always wearing it...I'm just too cheap :) Thanks for the review, Kim!

Now I'm going to have to youtube Betty Boop's voice- ha! :) Loving your long lashes, I'm cheap and cheerful when it comes to mascara but have always wondered about the vibrating kind!
ReplyDeleteBetty Boop is so cute! Love this collab. :D And I love what that mascara does for your lashes!
ReplyDelete(I want pink Chucks too! But a baby pink, and not the super bright kind...haha! ;)

It's amazing how Betty Boop is still going strong. My mom loved her way back in the early 1930s--Betty's the most perennial character I know of.
ReplyDeleteI love mine from Clinique... I've spent a lot of money on mascaras and have to say this one is amazing... If I had points definitely I could try this one... 28$ it's a bit pricey! Haha!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great review Kim. Looks amazing <3 Love Betty Boop; great idea to launch a mascara with her <3.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day,

looks great xo
ReplyDeleteI used for some time Hypnose mascara, after collecting a good stock during a trip to an outlet. It wasn't Sephora though: Is this new Hypnose sold exclusively in Sephora? Anyway, the previous release was already fabulous, I guess the new one rocks!I have been using cheaper mascaras lately, apparently they give good results, but at the end of the day you find pieces of dried mascara scattered on your cheeks...Lancome's mascaras are definitely awesome.I'm trying Inimitable mascara by Chanel:review coming up soon.Have a great day sweetie
ReplyDeleteyou have an awsome blog:) it's sweet indeed! love this review. i'm now using the essence mascara which is good too. if i'm done with that i may try this lancome mascara:)
ReplyDeletelots of love xx
I haven't tried this particular one but I love Lancome mascaras in general and after reading this review, well I predict it won't be long!
ReplyDeleteThat mascara looks really good - i like the before & after shots in the review, makes it really easy to see how good the effect is. Not sure if I'd be able to shell out $28 for a mascara though...hmm.
ReplyDeleteHaha... :) this video is so funny! I love it! Daria is a very faboulous model <3

I have always loved Lancome mascara, this one looks really great and although I just got a couple this summer (Laura Mercier and another one recommended at Sephora) I might try this one for fall. Thanks for the write up and hope you have a great weekend!

I don't even think this particular version has reached our shores as yet...I can definitely see the difference in your lashes, they look beautifully curled and volumized. I know Lancome's other mascaras are pretty good so this one should follow suit. Great review Kim, I would never know about these things without you.
ReplyDeleteI have loved LANCOME since my mom started using it when I was 10. But you are right, the price is not as lovely as the product :O( For mascara I actually stick with drugstore brands, and splurge on Lancome's skincare instead.

great review. the price is up there though... ever since i became a SAHM, everything that seemed normally priced now seems just too expensive. with that said, lancome makes the best mascaras, in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI need a new mascara as I have lost all of my make up. I can't for the life of me find my make up case. Maybe my husband hid it as joke but it's been a week and I had to go out and buy all new. I have not bought the mascara yet but will consider this, Kim. Awesome timing and review. lots of love, dawn suitcase vignetts xo
