DRESS For The Holidays

It's the most EXPENSIVE time of the year!
Am I right or what ladies? Besides purchasing gifts, decorations for your home and food for your family, you also receive a flurry of invites to events that fill up your social calendar. Many of these events take place in the evening, requiring cocktail dresses, evening gowns, ball gowns or some form of formal attire. You want to look good, but you also have a budget to adhere to. What's a girl to do? Well when you shop, I want you to keep in mind the advice of some of the fashion experts! You know their names! Chanel, Valentino, Vreeland and Laurent!

"A Girl Should Be Two Things: Classy and Fabulous" ~ Coco Chanel
Buy Classy! Buy Fabulous! Buy a dress that you can wear again and again and AGAIN. Before purchasing a dress, look at it and ask yourself where else can you wear it. A versatile dress will give you many options. Many options will save you money in the future.

"I Know What Women Want. They Want To Be Beautiful" ~ Valentino Garavani
Buying a beautiful dress shouldn't cripple your checking account or credit card. Also know, beautiful dresses can be found many places. Don't limit yourself to department stores or even privately owned dress shops to find one. The markups on event, prom dresses and evening dresses can be outrageous at these places. I know, because I worked part time at one while in college. Avoid the middle man markup and try buying online at a site such as MissesDressy.  I just recently discovered their website and was very impressed with their price range (they have a dress for every budget), selection of sizes (0-28), variety of dresses (for all types of events) and they ship nearly WORLDWIDE.

"The Only Real Elegance Is In The Mind. If You've Got That The Rest Really Comes From That" ~ Diana Vreeland
Confidence and elegance is a state of mind. I've witnessed women wearing expensive designer gowns, with very little of either. It's not how much you've paid for a dress, but how you feel and look in it that matters. I really like these Sherri Hill dresses. I think they exude confidence, elegance, sophistication and may I add sparkle. They're perfect for the holidays.

"Over The Years I Have Learned That What Is Important In A Dress
Is The Woman That Is Wearing It" ~ Yves Saint Laurent
And last but not least, how does the dress make you FEEL? Do you smile when you look at it? Does it make you feel like the most beautiful girl in the world? It should no matter what you pay for it! If it does anything less, put it back and search for something else. Remember, YOU deserve nothing but the best!

  1. All fabulous advice! I've decided to stick to my classic LBD (two actually) and just get a chunky statement necklace to change the look. It also means that I can wear "the bling" with jeans and jumper making it a multi-purpose tool for various outfits ;-) Have a lovely day xo

  4. I love how you categorized these beautiful dresses by colors. I love me some purple, black, sparkle and red. Want one in each color. You are so right Kim, this is the most expensive time of the year. There are always ways/places to spend money...bad for wallets but very satisfying.

  5. Hi Kim, hope you are having a good week! I definitely want to add in a dress or two to my wardrobe this season. I've had my eye on a black wool DVF since Fashion Night Out--these days I only buy a few things per season, but you can never have enough lbds!

  16. Gosh I was this popular to have a problem for what to wear to holiday parties! hehe...but I do love dressing up for parties when I get the chance. (Un)fortunately, for me I don't buy many frocks since I rarely need them, but I have a good stock pile that I can pull from when I need to. My main goal is versatility. I like to accessorize to change up the way something looks and add layers to change it too! =)

  18. This definitely becomes the most expensive time of the year because of the holiday trips, gifting, parties, etc. But I happen to have a good amount of cocktail dresses that I can wear because I haven't been able to wear them all year. And I agree, only buy a dress that you can wear more than once.

  19. i alwys find cocktail dresses like this impossible to wear at the holidays because it's JANUARY at new years and COLD. so cold. i end up bundling. i love cute dresses, but i layer them with sweaters and stuff
