Do you ever look at something, think it's beautiful, but feel there's something missing? That's the way I feel about this Oscar de la Renta Spring Ad Campaign. Let me start off by saying, I really like it. The colors used for the background are pretty. The dresses and suits are exquisite. There's even a nice simplicity with the chairs. Where it goes a little wrong for me are the tables. I don't know if they're not fancy enough, need some flowers or sweet treats on them, but something is missing. HaHaHa I think I would've left the tables completely out of the photoshoot or maybe put it (as in the first picture) where it's peeking from the right side of the picture (so you don't see the ENTIRE table). I get that you don't need much in this photoshoot, because you have some
strong statement pieces here, but I still feel there's still something missing. Maybe I'm wrong. Let
me know your thoughts! Would you have done anything differently with this or leave it as is? The photographer is Craig McDean, styling was done by Alex White and the models are Liu Wen and Caroline Brasch Nielsen. (images via oscarprgirl.tumblr)
Can I have it all,please?;)

It's a gorgeous campaign and I think I know where you're coming from Kim but I think perhaps they decided not to prop the tables so as to really let the colors of the dresses stand out. I am loving both gowns in that first image and the hair and makeup is perfection.

Omg they are so elegant! I love the 60's vibe to these photos with the hair and makeup but the outfits are so modern and pretty!
ReplyDeleteWell, let's say they are minimalist:) I would have put something more too... Nevertheless these dresses are beautiful:)

ReplyDeleteyeah, not quite sure where there were going with this...the photos are really pretty with just the chairs, like in the top right.
ReplyDeletegirls and the clothing are beautiful, tho!

ReplyDeletei love the flowery shoes and all the lace! i heard lace is in and i loveee it so sexy withought showing skkin!or rolls! in my opinion heehheee
ReplyDeleteI agree - something feels missing. The clothes are fab-u-lous though! Those lacey dresses at the end - I die!
ReplyDeleteThe collection is amazing! I'm loving all the interesting mix of textures and prints here. haha, I think the styling is rather cool but the set looks a little awkward now that you mentioned it!

There's something so sophisticated and powerful to me about the colors red and black, I'm not sure what it is. Those two outfits are my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well with you. Sorry I haven't visited in a while, but you have a lot of cool posts as always. I saw at the top of your page a link to the Carrie Diaries on the CW. Have you seen it? If so, what do you think? I was going to follow it, but changed my mind not to watch it last minute, haha.
Thanks for posting this!

Love that first pink dress! And the lace-like heels are gorgeous. Thanks for sharing, Kim!
ReplyDeleteKim I TOTALLY agree with you! This is lack luster to me as well. I guess maybe they were trying to let the dresses be the focal point but honestly I feel as if the dresses are too special for this location and the casual vibe of the scenery is detracting from the beautiful designs!

That giant brown bag is what is distracting me, it is so large and really does not fit the style of the clothing. But everything else is lovely!

perfect ad campaign!!
ReplyDeleteI totally get what you mean. It's an empty set!
ReplyDeleteKim, thanks for such a nice compliment! It touched my heart really. I never consider myself that photogenic. This past year I have had too many jaw surgeries to count and my face doesn't have the same structure that it used to. Your comment made me feel like nothing happened to my face/body this past year. Thank you for always spreading such cheer and joy! Its really lacking in this world and I think between the two of us we can send out a whole lot more positive energy : )
ReplyDeleteOh and also... I think we should write to Oscar and let him know that we would wear these dresses to an awesome masquerade, mardi gras, or a ball and take lots of interesting photos of us having a grand time!
Yours,
Nico
LOVING this collection. I have to say that the shoes are my favorite part. but I also love the white and black stripes!

ReplyDeleteIt does look like it's missing something but at the same time those dresses just steal the show! I want...I want!! lol...
ReplyDeleteThanks for always commenting Kim <3
ReplyDeleteI so love this campaign! Have a great weekend <3<3
ReplyDeleteCan you say more is more? That's exactly the phrase that comes to mind when I see this beautifully opulent collection and my little fashionista heart is practically squealing with glee :) I always love Oscar de la Renta for his classic styles and lines but this year he has really inspired me - I feel like a whole new life has been breated into his line and I am so, so excited about it!
ReplyDeletexox,

Awesome dresses I love them all. Perfect hair dress it suits the dress very well.
ReplyDeleteLove all the dresses and clothes, but I feel your right, the tables make me feel like this is the after-the-photoshoot kind of pictures with nothing on the tables and a very plain floor. Like we weren't meant to see these ones or something, like test shots. It would have picked it up a bit, I think :) But, no mistake, these garments and shoes are exquisite, maybe they thought we'd just pay attention to the girls and the clothes, but for me, I just end up paying attention to what isn't there, hahaha!! I got your email & answered back, am really pleased your box came and you loved everything, so happy!! That made my day, you are so welcome doll :))) Was a pleasure. Hope you have a great weekend doll <3
ReplyDeletei love everything here especially the last photo of lace over powder pink and blue..but i think what is missing here (yes i feel that too) is the lack of a backdrop that supports the entire theme..the background is boring.
ReplyDeleteDear Kim, I must agree with you. While everything about the models is gorgeous, the setting is disconcerting for its insignificance. I mean neither bad nor good, just not appropriate. Thanks for sharing dear, I wish you a fantabulous weekend! Love Coco
ReplyDeleteI think it's great, it makes sure your eyes are drawn to the pieces :)

It actually works for me.
ReplyDeleteIt is a little plain, but then gain what you want to showcase is the clothing... which i think are quite spectacular. If i had to do anything wouldbe remove the furniture and just let them stand!
Oh my - I adore this collection, I really want that stripy dress, apparently stripes are slimming ha ha. Hope you are well lovely lady, here it is freeeeezing cold, i wish for sunshine and a bit of warmth:) Happy weekend,
ReplyDeleteAxx
I get what you're saying. It would be nice to have some flowers on the floor or something. But wowza on those heels...they are boss.
ReplyDeleteKim, I've always love Oscar de la Renta. Their dresses are so feminine and beautiful! Happy Friday!

ReplyDeleteSUCHHHH a gorgeous campaign! Love those booties with the eyelette details <3
ReplyDeletedamn these girls look beautiful!!! I love this collection!!! It is sooooooooo sophisticated and vintage!! Two great combinations i think!! Thanks for sharing Kim!!
ReplyDeleteVery cool! Love the lacy yellow dress. Have a great weekend, Kim :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the clothes but not the background that much. The tables do create an imbalance there (placement and yes..they look empty and blah) so I am with you on that. I love the second picture with the cut-out shoes. :)

I absolutely love the clothes but not the background that much. The tables do create an imbalance there (placement wise) so I am with you on that. I wouldn't prop with flowers because that would take away the focus from all the beautiful clothes..may be leave out the table. I love the second picture with the cut-out shoes. :)

ReplyDeleteHey doll,
ReplyDeleteI am a HUGE De la Renta fan and honestly I'm feeling a little underwhelmed here. I share in your sentiment it's like a piece of the puzzle is missing here. Don't get me wrong, the hair, makeup and gowns are glam and chic but the editorial itself its missing something. Hmmmm. They should have called me and you for a little consulting no? LOL
