Will I be a flapper for Halloween? Nahhh. Been there. Done that already. HaHaHa I reached into the Kimmy photo vault of wonders and found a pic of me dressed as a flapper for Halloween some years ago (haha) to show you guys I actually was one. I looked like I was about to do the Charleston? HaHaHa >.<
You can practically put together a flapper costume for less than nothing. Nearly everything is already in your closet. I simply wore a black mini-skirt, loose silk lace tank (disregard the white deodorant under my arm! hahahaha fashion faux pas indeed!), black tights, flipped my hair and draped pearls everywhere. Of course my headpiece was cheap sequins and probably a black pigeon feather obtained from the cheap costume store I went to. But who notices all those things, especially at a Halloween party!
If I had to dress up as a flapper today, I would definitely incorporate more color into my outfit. But mine was basic and decent. :) Have you ever been a flapper?
Have a great day everybody! Flap on! >.<
Ah man, now you've got me brainstorming for Halloween...haha, I want to be a flapper now! That's one costume I've never done actually. Loving these gorgeous inspired flapper fashion shots :)

Affordability - reason no. 1 why I love dressing as a flapper for Halloween. Love your costume, btw. I'm from Shanghai, and it was a roaring city indeed in the 20's. Glad to see Vogue China making it on this blog.

Finally catching up after a few days away! I'm sure you're right about the influence of the Great Gatsby on
ReplyDeletefashion. More flapper style dresses are now appearing in the stores. You look great in your outfit - your hair and the pearls are just perfect and you did it all without spending a fortune too! Have a good week.
Ah you're so cute in your flapper Halloween outfit! :) We don't dress up much for that here in Australia, but it would be fun. The flapper style is so girly :)

Hi Kim! That's right, that movie influenced fashion so much lately! Love your flapper style finds, you look so nice with your costume and it is very easy to recreate, have to remind it! Kisses dear, have a good day! xo
ReplyDeleteThe headbands and the necklaces really make the 1920s for me. I went to a 20s themed party awhile ago and I had nothing to wear but the accessories allowed me to pull it off! I like this 20s inspiration because it is not as common as many of the other decades. I'm going to see the movie next week (it is still not out yet here).
ReplyDeleteA really opulent fashion spread, I think what I love most about this trend are all the pretty accessories!
ReplyDeleteYou are good in that look..love the 20.

Your flapper costume is great! My favorite thing about the flapper costumes are the headpieces and jewelry! Heather
ReplyDeleteIt's really amazing how much of an impact the release of The Great Gatsby has had on fashion this year! My great aunt has a whole battery of flapper dresses in her closet, in shades of black, pink and cream... I would love to be able to borrow one and dress up in these styles, just for fun. You look so cute in your flapper costume, who wouldn't want to try it?

OMG LOVE your flapper oufit, haha! So fun! These outfits are gorgeous too, I LOVE all of the colors with the 20s themed shapes and cuts. People come in to the store all the time to look for old flapper dresses- we've sold them all! I keep telling my boss Sandi that we need to get out and find more!

Kimmy's photo vault LOL. You look so cute in your flapper outfit, but I agree, it seems only appropriate for Holloween. This is why I think we haven't seen the 20's reincarnated in everyday clothing (a la the 60's, 70's, 90's, etc). It feels too costume-y?

I love the Great Gatsby fever, as I love the flapper's style. I've never been a flapper but I might this year, as I have a proper flapper dress in my closet with rows of fringes that fluctuate at every flap! Long story! I like your flapper's interpretation. Did you see Emma's at Fluff? Both lovely!!

This is so beautiful. Even before the hooplah over The Great Gatsby...the '20s era has always been one of my favorite decades...to study, to look at and to learn from. I have no real reason to explain why but it just is! That and the '50s haha. So weird.
ReplyDeleteLove how you look as a flapper too!!
