Three Ways To Save More Money On Your Online Purchases

One study confirmed that over 170 million people used the Internet for many of their shopping needs and purchases in 2010. The same study also confirmed that over 184 million explored online shopping less than two years later, according to eMarketer. Many people seem to be enjoying shopping online primarily because of the substantial amount of money that can be saved by doing so. Without the hefty overhead expenses, the average eCommerce store is able to offer discounts, specials and low pricing on their products that their traditional competitors are unable to afford. However, there are several ways that you can save even more money than you already do by shopping online.

Focus on Finding Shipping Offers
Instead of focusing solely on making sure that the sales price is low, another way to save money on your online purchases would be to make sure that the costs associated with shipping are low as well. There are many online deals that come with free shipping. On the other hand, there are also companies that provide coupons that will discount standard shipping costs. For example, when purchasing a new computer, you can benefit from this NewEgg free shipping coupon in order to enjoy more savings.

Pay Attention to the Bottom Line Pricing
There are some cases where the sales price might be marked up, but the shipping costs are either discounted or covered by the seller. In these cases, you may end up saving money by going with these marked up deals. When shopping for competitive prices, make sure that you add the shipping cost, handling expenses and sales taxes to the pricing. Doing so will allow you to see the full picture and easily identify whether or not it truly is a good deal. If you make a habit of just paying attention to the sales price, you can easily be misled by bad deals and end up missing out on good ones.
Search for Discounts on Bulk Orders
When shopping online, you should look out for discounts, promotions and specials that are being offered for bulk orders. In many cases, you could easily be able to save a substantial amount of money simply by purchasing multiple items at the same time. Over 27 percent of coupons in 2011 required customers to make multiple purchases, according to the Neilson Company. This means that consumers that either avoided multiple purchases or did not use these coupons when making those purchases missed out on these potential savings.

The Bottom Line
In order to truly be an efficient online shopper, you have to be able to look past the surface. Even though it is true that you can save money simply by shopping online instead of within the traditional offline stores, this is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the money that could potentially be saved as long as you shop wisely. Check for discount offers on bulk orders or for multiple purchases. Consider all charges and associated expenses before finalizing an order. Use coupons and other online specials that will allow you to enjoy free shipping even on marked up products.

  8. Wonderful tips! I decided not to purchase a belt last week due to the high costs of shipping. Traveling a few days later (in Michigan), I came across a J Crew store. Found three belts there at 40 percent off the sale price + no shipping (ended up spending less what I'd have spent for 1 with shipping). I try to save money whenever possible. It all adds up. :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  13. Darling graphics on this post Kim. And ...great info! I always try to get free shipping. Free shipping is a huge incentive for me to order online in the first place. So when they don't offer it I go elsewhere. It is just the thrifty nature I have, I guess.
