Movie Talk: Movies On Repeat

Do you guys go to the movies or rent them? I find myself renting more nowadays. Why? Because Hollywood seems to be releasing the same movies & storylines over and over again. Are there any movies you're tired of seeing? I mean, how many versions of Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Paranormal Activity, and Fast & Furious do we need? Oops! Strike Fast & Furious! There's some serious eye candy in that movie :P. But seriously you guys, I took a look on a website called comingsoon.net to see what movies are coming down the pike and it's more of the same stuff warmed over. They're making another Planet of the Apes, Dracula, Frankenstein, Hobbitt, Godzilla, Annie...I could go on but I'll stop. What about originality? What about some new characters and new stories? I'm looking forward to seeing The Wolf of Wall Street (11/15/13) with Leonardo DiCaprio & Matthew McConaughey and Maleficent (7/2/14) with Angelina Jolie. I think I'm going to start watching some foreign films. LOL Anything floating your boat that's upcoming? HaHaHa

  1. Love the hollywood-inspired accessories kim! I'm more of an arthouse/foreign flick person but I do love the occasional blockbuster. Probably want to check out Elysium soon, I've heard nice things :)

  4. I rent 90% of the time and am very particular about new releases as most of them aren't exactly master pieces. Though I don't think The Hobbit has ever been made before - it was the book and now there is a movie and I can't wait to see Part 2. x

  5. I have movies on repeat I don't know of any that I am looking to watch, but you right its always the same thing over and over. Hence I like series more haha.

  6. Great post, Kim! I couldn't agree more! Hollywood has been really lacking a lot of creativity in the last decade and somehow I feel that 3D technology is to blame as this asks for more explosive special effects and less moving storylines.

I really enjoy going to the movies but with such expensive prices in Europe and not so many interesting movies it's already been half a year since the last time I went to the cinema. I've bought some DVDs of movies I like to compensate. And I've started to follow more series recently.

Have a very sweet day, Kim.

  8. Those cinema-inspired items are such fun! Often there is a film I'm looking forward to seeing but I was just thinking the same thing, there isn't really anything I'm excited to see at the moment. I love the whole experience of a visit to the cinema and we even have some cinema gift vouchers to use from last Christmas - we need a couple of good films to be released!

  10. I'm with you, Kim! I am tired of watching remake after remake and Part 3 of movies that weren't even worthy of a Part 2. I adore the collection of movie accessories you've displayed! xo T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  11. LOVE the accessories you showcase especially the popcorn bag ;-)
To be honest I haven't done either for ages. I just never seem to have time to watch a film all the way through (plus I can't sit still for that long before my mind starts whirring and body starts twitching). Having said that I would like to go to the cinema to see the new Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy film. I was also so surprised when I returned to the UK how expensive cinema tickets are. When I went to see the last Bond film (which has to be seen in a cinema ;-) two tickets came to $55! Is it just me (as I lived in the Med for too long) or does that seem expensive?
Have a lovely week Kim x

  12. Sequels are usually not as good as the first movie of a series, but remakes can be good. Like Star Trek :-)

  13. Honestly, it's been a few years since I've really gone to any movies - when cartoons become more original than movies with actors is when I gave up. I mostly watch old movies now, from the 50s up to the 80s. I love anything with Walter Matthau; his comedy never gets old for me :)

  14. As a Peter Jackson fan, I think you can never have enough Hobbit movies....heehee....But seriously, I've been so out of it with movies lately I don't really know what's coming out soon. Will check out that site, Kim:)
    Have a good one.

  15. They are such cute movie themed clutches! :)

We don't rent much, but we are going to the movies more now and then. So many movies are nothing like what you see in the trailers though....need to be more careful with picking movies, the funny trailers don't always mean funny movies :(

  17. I don't think they know how to be original any more. They certainly don't with TV shows! They're coming out with another Buffy movie too!

  18. All of the Kate Spade purses are TOO cute, especially that 3-D glasses one. I only see a movie in the theater if it's something I'm dying to see...otherwise I'll wait till it comes out on DVD.

  20. I'm looking forward to a few movies based on books, like Gone Girl & The Fault in Our Stars. I'm not sure either is filming yet so it will be awhile before they hit theaters! I do want to see the next Hunger Games movie this fall.

  21. At the Fox Theatre (a historic theatre in Atlanta, Ga) they are showing Breakfast at Tiffanys. I am so excited to go see it. We are making a girls night out of it and celebrating one of our friend's birthdays.

I love all your links for making a movie night special! The vintage look and feel make the movies feel extravagant again

  22. Such cute bags! I am all for the super hero movies, but not when they have to keep remaking them. I am also more of a Marvel fan so, superman is kinda boring to me, lol. I have been trying to catch up on classics myself! One of my favorite foreign films is "The Science of Sleep" if you wanna check it out.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I completely agree Kim! I just read an article about how audiences are tiring of the same "summer blockbuster" movie formula. We rent a lot and I love watching movies on the plane too!

Ooh and I'd love one of each of these please - Charlotte Olympia always designs such whimsical pieces!

  27. Movies are indeed on repeat these days...I'm sick of them. I tend to watch foreign movies more, they are brilliant and so much better than Hollywood movies. I think that's going to be my theme for my next movies of the month, because I just watched some good ones :) I like Dracula movies, although when the make vampires shine like glitter, it has to stop, haha!! Love these bags, they are so cool :)) I would take any of them. Have a great day doll :) xx

  29. Lurve films - and yes story lines are getting drab and dull. But I'm looking forward to the sequel of the Hunger games+ Maleficent with Angelina looks awesome
    - and the Games of Thrones - TV series though - love that!! So dark!!
Happy day - and I adore the walk of fame clutch - still waiting for my star ;-)

  30. I have not been to the movies for over a month!
Seems like there are no good movies (all we get is Holllywood stuff)
I really like you movie inspired goodies!

  31. I used to enjoy going to the movies more but with the rise in ticket prices and decline in quality, we only go a few times year now. Sometimes we rent them off our DVR but I'm with you on the remakes Kim. It's like there's nothing original anymore and now they're even remaking Asian movies which I tend to watch more. There's a Korean film I'd recommend to you called The Good, The Bad and The Weird. It's a western but not in traditional sense. The humor and plot twists are quite brilliant and Lee Byung Hun who was in the editorial I featured with Catherine Zeta Jones is in it. I love your film inspired picks btw!

My mom's facialist gave her the SK-II mask. She got 2 of them so she gave me 1 to try. I will def. let you know how it works when I try it. For $24, I'm expecting a small miracle Kim ;p Hubby say thanks for complimenting his kicks too!

  33. No. 5 is mighty sexy. I rent most of the time, but when there are blockbusters, with cool special effects, I'll save those for the theater.

These are very cool, by the way. Very unique concept for accessories.

  35. Hi Kim, completely agree, I can't recall the last time Ive been to the movies, I prefer indie and art movies that have a good story and don't rely on special effects to carry it through 2 hours. I am looking forward to watching Blue Jasmine and Before Midnight. Love those cute bags and heels.

  36. Love these cinema-inspired accessories! I too am tired of all the remakes that are made today, have the film industry completely run out of ideas? I really don't want to see remakes of old 1940s or 1950s classics, hopefully we don't have too.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Its true, they're running out of ideas it seems. Everything that's coming out lately is either a remake or based on a book (although I AM super excited to see The Mortal Instruments...hehe)

  39. I don't seem to go to the cinema very often for pretty much the same reasons as you, plus it's actually quite expensive here for two or three people. I tend to go to see films which really look good on a big screen and leave everything else to dvd. I do like all those little accessories you found though ;-) Hope you're having a good week xo

  40. Hi Kim! Totally agree with you! Thats why I usually prefer to read a book but I have to be honest since for some movies I always want new ones, it happens for Batman for example cause I am a huge fan of it!:) Btw, your finds are so cool, love the Charlotte Olympia clutches so much! Kisses dear! xo

  41. Hear hear Kim!!! I'm on the same boat as you. It seems likeHollywood has become a cesspool of diarrhea. All they are capable of producing are CGI induced franchises. I'm so tired of this 3D trend as well. It's like JJ Abrams said, if you can't make a good movie, just make it 3D and people will show up anyway. What happened to films that were about profound stories and characters that evoked emotions? They're basically non-existant now, so trust me when I say this, foreign films and independent art house films are the best route forward. It's such a rarity now days to see a film just about stories, and less about special effects.

The only film i'm looking forward to this year is Gravity, because I'm a huge sci-fi fan, and me loves me some George Clooney, haha. If you need any film recommendations, I'm at your service :)

  43. I watch both movies in the theatre and also at home via DVDs. I just recently watched "Blue Jasmine" directed by Woody Allen and starring Kate Blanchett. It was a superb movie. Very sylish clothes in the movie. Enjoy, Pamela.

  44. I know how you feel! Half the movies that come out already feel so tired and over done. But I still enjoy going to the theater, I saw "The Way Way Back" last week and I really enjoyed it.

  45. I hear ya!! I think the film industry has totally sucked me in. You're totally right, they keep coming out with Ironman, batman, superman series.. but that's how they suck you in! Once you watch the first one, you're almost obligated to watch the rest. My most guilty confession is the twilight series- I just had to watch them because I wanted to know the ending, despite how terrible the acting was. We do still go to the movies, more for the experience and having date nights. Otherwise I think renting is also a great option too!!

Mr. Whimsy and I have been on vacay visiting family and keep thinking we should leave Baby Whimsy with my moms and go see a movie. But every single time I look at the line up of available movies I quickly lose interest. It's all so lame and done before. There's nothing fresh.

    So what are you renting?

    LOVE the clutches btw.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Hi Kim. I've thought the same thing myself. Can't someone come up with an original story? I used to love scary movies but they are not scary when you know what to expect. What about all of the "it's the end of life as we know it" movies where all of a sudden people have to survive without the internet LOL. I'm just glad the vampire thing is slowing down. I did like the latest Star Trek movie though, but I'm a fan from way back. Never seen a Star Trek movie I didn't like. Got my photo with William Shatner when he came to town. That was fun!

  50. Now that you mention it, it is all the same isn't it! The same love triangles or beefed up dudes shooting each other or humankind destroying the earth. Honestly I wait to rent something out since I think it's also way too expensive these days to go out to the movies. Over $20 just for a ticket!

  55. LOVE the silver screen clutch! I agree, Kim. The film industry just keeps repeating itself. I'm so excited for Maleficent! I love Anjelina Jolie. I'm interested in seeing the Carrie remake. Granted the old one is definitely a classic! I think it has something to do with the fact that now that we're in a day and age where technology and movie magic is so advanced, they want to bring a better quality to the pictures. But that's what made those films like Dracula and Frankenstein classics, right? The imperfections?

There are some good films that are coming out this fall/winter. I'll let you know what looks good ;)
