Day 1 & Day 2 of Paris Fashion Week has left me perplexed. How can I describe it to you? Either you will love a design or you will hate it. There's no in-between. There's no gray area. It is...what it is. If you thought London was on a different level, then Paris is wayyy out in the stratosphere...the abyss, baby (i did NOT include those stratospheric collections here). I found myself liking, only a section of a collection (as you will see below - just 1 strip). That's weird to me, because when I think of a collection, I think of it as a group. I feel like I'm suppose to like it, in its entirety. Not just 4-5 pieces. But anyway, I only LOVED three collections out of two days. Those three would be Dries Van Noten (Day 2), Damir Doma (Day 2) and Rochas (Day 2). Day 1 was kind of a bust for me :P Not much love for Day 1. Everything else was just bits n' pieces of fashion love. So far (I hope it gets better), Paris Fashion Week does NOT have me swinging from the chandeliers as Milan did. Are my expectations too high? They usually are for everything (that's me in general! I can be difficult, but that's only because I expect THE BEST out of everyone and everything. so readers, if you've been with me this long give yourself a super gold star, because many don't make it. when I like you, I like you. when I don't, you'll know it. I'm persnickety as they come :) I seriously digress here.). Is the best yet to come of Paris Fashion Week? I hope so! My picks are below. I'm not really impressed with Day 1, now looking at it. Tomorrow, I'm taking you to the ballet. We all need a reprieve. ***My favorites from Day 3 & 4 of Paris Fashion Week will be posted Saturday.***
Day 1 - Paris Fashion Week
Pascal Millet
Moon Young Hee
Anthony Vaccarello
Day 2 - Paris Fashion Week
Rochas
Dries Van Noten
Christopher Lemaire

I like the first row of images, but the rest didn't do that much for me. I can't wait for you to take me to the ballet tomorrow!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors at both Damir Doma and Rochas though they are really quite different! The shapes at Rochas are really too fun though!

p.s. I'm also really loving the gorgeous silhouettes at Pascal Millet (no thanks re:the see through shirt though!)

You are right. There was no in-between for me. I was mostly perplexed too - perhaps I'm too old for clothes that show a lot of skin - but the first designer has really beautiful stuff.
ReplyDeleteI have to agree, sometimes I love an hate one collections and it has me baffled but I guess that is fashion for you, to each their own taste. Thoroughly enjoyed this post. Hope the weeks been good to you Kim xo

So far I only loved a few specific items rather than entire collections and I guess this is the reason why I tend to make my round-ups at the very end as am incredibly picky when choosing "likes" and "loves". Paris is still the most exciting of them all for me, but the best is yet to come... x
ReplyDeleteI've only seen what you've shown but I really like the first two rows you selected of Pascal Millet and Damir Doma (I didn't know any of them!)The designs you've picked of Guy Laroche are soo delicate, love it! And Dries van Noten also has some good looks.
ReplyDeleteI'm usually the other way round, I find it hard to like a full collection but there are always a couple of pieces I love form every designer. Now, if my purse allowed ... hehehe
Have a wonderful day, Kim!
xoxo Irene
I certainly like the Rochas and the Guy Laroche collection pieces you picked! :)
ReplyDeleteShame there wasn't much that you liked, maybe the next few days will have more! :)
Away From The Blue
I love blue so the Felipe Oliveira collection appeals to me most here:)

These are great choices. Am like you, I like it or I don't. There is no inbetween. And if I don't like I don't dare waste my time trying to pretend or anything like that. I hope these fashion shows get better, I've liked them, but at the same time I've been a little under whelmed with many of the lines. I like the Dries Van Noten lines, it's not too much, just right. I hope there will be more to your liking doll :))) Have a great Thursday xx
ReplyDeletea perfect view of the first day!
ReplyDeleteciao
Moon Young Hee's and Rochas' collections are my faves. Sure thrilled to see a vibrant blue in the mix, too! Joy & hugs, T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteLove the blue!
ReplyDeleteOoh la la, Anthony Vaccarello sent some sexy stuff down the runway!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! I agree with you, either when I like a collection and about the PFW. But I think is cause it is just started and the best is yet to come, at least I hope so!:) You know, usually for me is London the one I like less, intead this year it surprised me a lot. Btw, I also agree with your favs, especially Rochas for the colors, fabrics and the floral patterns. Have a good day dear, kisses! xo
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Pascal Millet but I am so glad I found out about him today! I love his line!
ReplyDeleteHaha, your commentary cracks me up! That third photo in the Anthony Vaccarello is um, interesting...is that a one piece bathing suit? A body suit?

Sept. Group Giveaway!
I loved Guy Laroche and Rochas.
ReplyDeleteMy picks are usually based on what I would wear from the collection :)
Gorgeous! I love that Pascal Millet line!
ReplyDeleteA few more names here that are new to me, including Moon Young Hee but I think the collection looks great, modern and fun!
ReplyDeleteHa ha, that's the way things are in France - you'll love it or you'll hate it, there's no in between and certainly no apologies. Even if I don't always love all of the collections at Paris Fashion Week, I love how the designers feel so free and unfettered by the idea that people might have to buy their clothes. To me, the designs are more like art than anything that might be worn and in that way I love them. Rochas was stunning. I also loved Pascal Millet, Dries Van Noten (as always) and Christopher Lemaire.
ReplyDeletexox,
Cee
Kim, I must admit I think I love the PFW collections more than the Milan one, just coz I think I love the palettes more of the PFW designers so far. That Vaccarello one is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLike you, I am more impressed with Day 2. I am liking the bold colors!

I honestly love every single collection. It is way too hard to choose a favorite.
ReplyDeleteTracy @ Sunny Days and Starry Nights
Great picks! I can see how you might only like a few items. It looks like a lot of the styles were a little too similar in these sets.
ReplyDeleteThe colors on the Felipe Oliveira collection are to die for... Love it!!

Hahaha. Now I want to see those stratospheric collections! Hehe. Although I like the first dress (top+skirt?) from Pascal Millet, I don't really see anything that I can wear. Hihi. Maybe we're both picky.
