This is a product review for KalkiFashion.com. It was designed & written by A Very Sweet Blog. All thoughts are 100% my own.
A representative from KalkiFashion.com contacted me last month and asked if I would be interested in modeling a saree. Initially I was going to say no (I was a little intimidated modeling clothing from another culture. I never want to mock or offend. For the record, I'm african-american.), but after thinking about it overnight, I felt it would be a wonderful learning experience. I love learning about other cultures and knew this would be a fabulous challenge for me and maybe learn some India fashion terminology. So I said to myself, "I Can Do This!" I gave the representative my specific measurements and asked her to send the saree.
While waiting on the saree, I ordered a Kundan set...earrings, necklace *not shown* and maang tika from eBay (store: bestdealsonclick $17 for all 3 pieces and all are a very nice weight). I want to give a special shout out to Debi from Flysongbird blog for helping me with the terminology! Thanks Debi! :)
Let me give you some background on KalkiFashion! KalkiFashion.com is located in Mumbai, India. Kalki stands for Eternity! They sell sarees, saree blouses, lehengas, kurtis and an assortment of beautiful jewelry. I was sent a dark purple saree with embroidery by FedEx. I placed the order on September 16th and it arrived October 15th (keep in mind I gave custom measurements. shipping is quicker with regular sizing). It was folded and packaged beautifully.
The next challenge for me was putting it on. Saree's are long! There's a lot of material! There are a number of YouTube tutorial videos on how to wear a saree. It's a series of wraps, pleats, twists and folds. It looks easy, but it is tedious. Again, this was my 1st time. I think mine looks more like a toga! HaHaHa But I did my best. I'll have to practice more. Practice makes perfect! HaHaHa Definitely take a look at KalkiFashion.com. They have different types of sarees online. The different color and pattern combinations are very beautiful. I would definitely order from them. I would like to thank KalkiFashion for giving me this opportunity. I love my saree! Have you ever worn a saree or any other cultural attire (other than your own ethnicity)? Share your thoughts below. Have A Great Monday!

ReplyDeleteI would have had no idea how to wear one, you did really well! :)
I don't think I've worn things from other cultures before...I did once have a cheongasm style top when I was younger. Blue of course! I think my grandparents actually brought it back from Asia, but I'm not sure. I just remember the colour and the fabric, and how the neckline used to tickle as I wasn't used to it, haha!
