Gingerbread Shack
Remember when I mentioned, I wanted to go to patisserie school (as a hobby)? Well, "scratch" that! HaHaHa I am NO Martha Stewart or Peggy Porschen! Why the sudden change of heart? I put together a gingerbread house for the first time. I don't mind baking a cake (a simple one), cupcakes or pie, but putting a gingerbread house together or something tedious. That's a different story my friends! I've been fascinated with gingerbread houses, since reading Hansel & Gretel as a little girl. A house made of sweet treats? Why YES, I could actually live in one of those! LOL I always BUY gingerbread houses. I never sat down and put one together. Well, this year I picked up a Wilton's gingerbread house kit from Party City. Their boxed kit is actually awesome. The frosting was moist & yummy, the pre-cut gingerbread pieces smelled just like baked gingerbread and the candy was fresh. Now here is where it went wrong! I didn't use the decorating bag. I ate so much frosting, that I barely had enough for a door and window. I ate some of the candies too! LOL I will say this! My gingerbread house won't fall apart. No it won't! I put so much frosting into the foundation (gluing the sides & roof together) I think it will last until NEXT Christmas! HaHaHa I CAN also decorate a roof! Just look at it! So beautiful. So colorful. I only have a window and a door, but the roof is rockin'. HaHaHa Now I see why gingerbread houses cost so much. It's truly an art! So here's my HUMBLE gingerbread house shack! LOL Do you have any gingerbread house stories you would like to share? Are you going to build one this year?
Heehee, I've never built one but yours is adorable Kim!! I'm starting to get a sugar rush just looking at all that delicious icing!! Yummy. Maybe I'll do one next year.

Wow Kim that's a very respectable gingerbread house indeed. Great job! I don't think I've seen one with that much icing before, but that's just a plus, I love icing. I really laughed when you said how much you'd eaten. I would have done the same. I've never tried a ginger bread house because I've been pretty sure the whole thing would collapse and I'd get terribly upset. I think a kit must be the way to go, so at least you know the pieces will meet up for gluing together. Well done and have a wonderful Christmas Kim. Mwah :D sparkle2day.com
ReplyDeleteIt is a really cute gingerbread house, Kim! Maybe because we don't have this around here I don't know how thay're supposed to look but to me yours is just perfect :)
ReplyDeleteI also love baking treats (and cooking in general) but I don't think I could handle patisserie school hehe This year I've decided to bake my own mincepies but the first try would have been a capital F at school. Anyways, they tasted good and I'll be trying again just in time for Christmas' Eve. Hopefully the second time they'll look as good as they taste :p
Have a very sweet weekend xoxo
Ah Kim! I want to purchase this kit now!!^^ You did an amazing job and honestly it is also mouthwatering! At first I thought you ate all the stuff..probably I would do the same!:) I never build a gingerbread house but it is also my dream from reading that story as well! Hugs dear, have a great weekend! xo
ReplyDeleteYou did a great job Kim, it looks great! I've never made a gingerbread house, as I can only imagine how difficult it would be. I could see myself sobbing in the corner just eating the evidence of my failed attempt....hahaha!
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy the Christmas holidays and have a wonderful Christmas day :)

You make me laugh, I was cracking up that I could barely read. I am the same, I eat as I make, haha. Am surprised I have anything left to put in the oven as I go. I think it looks lovely doll :) Made one with my Aunt when I was a child and I got swatted out of the kitchen for sneaking the pieces into my mouth, hahahahaha!! Oh well :))) Gorgeous gorgeous :) xx
ReplyDeleteAww your house is lovely dear and too sweet!
ReplyDeleteI would definitely have a little frosting too! Have a happy weekend dear!

ReplyDeleteThis looks so fun to put together and the end result is eye-catching and festive :) Buying a kit makes it a bit easier to have all the pieces pre-made so all you need to do is the construction (and occasionally eating the ingredients as you go) part :p

Cute! Twice in my marriage, my in-laws have gone all out with gingerbread houses--I'm talking huge with lights and furnishings! Since the whole fam was in town this year, I asked if we could do it again… the end of the story is that everyone ignored me, and I ended up buying Stella a kit from Target! It was already glued together and everything!

i love how adorable it turned out. i remember my food mishaps/horror stories! I made pizza which even the dog wouldn't touch, I made "cake" (and I use the term loosely here) which was so hard it could be passed of as biscuit.
