Molton Brown Ylang Ylang Body Wash Product Review

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for AVEENO®. I'm a 2014 AVEENO® Ambassador. All opinions are 100% my own. I received a 12 oz bottle of AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Lotion and a $100 Visa gift card for participating in the #AveenoDailyChallenge. Come with me on my three week personal journey, as I commit to activities that will help me de-stress, meditate, reflect, and take time for myself. I'll be using AVEENO® Daily Moisturizing Lotion everyday, along the way.

Challenge #13 - Molton Brown Ylang Ylang Body Wash vs. AVEENO® Stress Relief Body Wash

Before I review this, let me tell you about my first encounter with Molton Brown. I joined a cheap ($19 a month) gym while in college and got sick of the "muscle-heads" looking at my ass while I was on the treadmill. Gyms always position treadmills in the front (ladies) and weights in the back (men). I wanted a guy to notice me, but these "gentleman" didn't have half a brain!

So I left that JUNGLE gym and decided to join a RITZY gym. REAL RITZY! $80 a week ($320 a month). I signed a contract that had so many pages, you would've thought I was buying a house. HAHAHA

After paying all of that, I really didn't need a gym membership, because all of my food money went to them! HAHAHA  I was in college! I was super thin and the youngest there. The people there were very mature ladies and very mature men (old doctors & lawyers). Too mature for me! They didn't look at my ass. They were too busy checking their heart and pulse monitors. HaHaHa So, instead I ended up enjoying the gym's amenities. One amenity was Molton Brown (made in England) body wash. I fell in love with their Warming Eucalyptus. It was perfect after a workout. A powerful, yet pleasing scent! A fabulous lather! It was soothing to my muscles! My skin was soft! I Loved Molton Brown! Now here's my review of the Ylang Ylang Body Wash.

I seriously don't know what has happened to Molton Brown, but the formula is different. I read a lot of beauty reviews and there was chatter that their formula had changed (but I didn't believe them). Molton Brown recently changed ALL the names of their body washes, which I thought was odd. Ylang Ylang was formerly called Relaxing Yuan Zhi. There are TWO POSITIVES! The bottle it comes in looks exquisite! The scent is awesome! Now the problems. Once you pour it, the scent seriously dissipates as you shower (and I poured a lot, which I never had to do in the past). So it's weak! It lathered, but even that was weak. Molton Brown use to really lather with just a quarter size in your palm. I am SO DISAPPOINTED in this! It's $30 a bottle! I wish I could show you my facial expression right now. HaHaHa I really thought Molton Brown was going to knock it out the park! I want to knock this bottle out my bathroom! HAHAHA It breaks my heart to say this, but I can't recommend it. Nobody has money to waste. I'm going to use this as hand wash. I'm going to purchase their Eucalyptus (formerly Warming Eucalyptus) and do a review on it (I know crazy). I'm interested in seeing, if it's just limited to their Ylang-Ylang formula (I hope so and will let you know). I challenge anyone to purchase AVEENO®s Stress Relief Body Wash and compare it to Molton Brown's Ylang Ylang! I know it sounds super crazy, but AVEENO® puts this to shame. The scent is better. It lathers better. It's MUCH cheaper. It makes your skin softer. PLUS IT RELAXES YOU AND PUTS YOU TO SLEEP! This just goes to show you, more expensive does not equal better. Save your $30 on this one. I'm not trying to make Molton Brown look bad! I'm not trying to make AVEENO look good! I'm just speaking the truth! I told you the story above, because I KNOW what the ORIGINAL was like (the plus of being older). Someone just trying Molton Brown for the first time, doesn't know. BTW, there was NOTHING relaxing about this body wash. HAHAHA You see how much I'm typing!!! Do I SOUND relaxed? LOL :P

  5. You know, I've aways liked MB, but never really bought it simply because I think they are overpriced for what they are. Like their candles, though. :)

  6. First of all, your story about joining gym is just priceless and i couldn't stop laughing. So cute. Now as for the Molton product, i think it is sad when company's start to cut corners and cheapen their products. Forgetting the reason why customers liked their stuff in the beginning. Well this is why we blog and this is really very helpful. Thanks dear.

  7. Hahaha your gym story is so funny. I can't believe you managed to join a high-class gym on a student budget! I am killing myself in the student gym at the moment and it is seeeeriously embarrassing in front of the male species. I wish I was on a Ritzy membership but London is priceeeay.

  11. Ahahah, Kim, the story of your past at the gyms made me so laugh! Lol! Btw, what a shame they have changed the formula and the products are now so different and so bad would add. I never tried the brand so I can share my experience but for sure will keep urs in mind! Aveeno one looks much more better. Kisses Kim! xo

  18. Why fix something that is not broken? I tend to use basic Eucalyptus scented soaps for relaxing. I sure as heck would not pay $30 for this. :/

  19. Your story about the gym made me laugh! $80 a week is INSANE! I like to work out in the comfort of my own home. It's free and no one is looking at me :)

That is such a bummer that they totally changed the body wash!

  20. How you got me laughing when reading your gym story, Kim. I am too cheap to be spending any money on gym membership for sure. I tend to go crazy at any products that have Ylang Ylang in them but too bad on this one. At $30 a bottle, glad you did a review.

  21. Hey, thanks for letting us know not buying this product. And 30 boxes for this is way too much! I thought it is a nice product but seems that not awlays the more expensive things are better. The story with the gym is funny but 320$ a month? That's crazy! Haaha

  23. Hahaha....Kim, you are the best storyteller. I would've loved to see you tell this gym story IRL:D
And that's really too bad about MB changing the formulation. I mean, with the price, you'd think it'd be better!

    ReplyDelete
  24. What a disappointment! Formula changes are almost always a let down - but at $30 a bottle for body wash, when there are so many reasonably priced competitors, that was a big risk for Molton Brown to take with their products. And, obviously, it failed. What a shame.

  27. I actually have heard of Molton Brown through my sister. Sorry to hear about this, but definitely appreciate your honest review. Plus, there's so many other brands that you can get double the quantity/quality out there. :)Have a great day Kim!

  28. ah too bad that it isn't the same as before!

  29. Thanks for the honest review. I've never heard of this - and now will def. not invest in it. $30 is very expensive. BTW, loved your gym story. Yes, there are many muscle heads in cheap gyms. I'd rather work out with doctors and lawyers who keep their eyes to themselves :O)

    Have a nice day!

  30. Haha this made LOL! But wowzie $80/week that is steep for sure. But the shower gel does sound awesome.

  31. That is so disappointing that the quality of this body wash doesn't match up with it's $30 price tag. So true that sometimes the pricier items aren't necessarily better.

  33. That's too bad. I used to use Molton Brown products and they were really great. I haven't used them in a while since they are kind of pricey. And I assumed all the Aveeno products were scent free. I might give the Aveeno body wash a try.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Oh that's too bad! But that story you told about the gym is funny :)

  38. Oh no, I loved MB! I used to use the body wash all the time. Glad you did a review. I've been using the philosophy coconut body wash lately that I received for my b-day, love it. So disappointed in MB, guess nothing stays the same forever.

  40. The beginning of the story was so promising! I'm really looking forward to the Eucalyptus shower foam review. However, I think that a brand who fails the formula of a product retailed at a medium-high price is not to be trusted. On the other hand I will soon try Aveeno :-)

  42. While I'm glad to know NOT to try Molton Brown, I have to say KUDOS to your observation! I always thought that was funny too! There are some gyms where the cardio is upstairs weight downstairs.
But the one story gyms tend to have that set up 90% of the time!

  53. I had wanted to skim through this post coz I thought I wouldn't really buy Molten Brown products. I currently have 3 miniature bottles of shampoo, conditioner and moisturiser in my room from a wedding favour gift and thought ok, maybe I would read this review and see how good or bad MB is but I ended up laughing at your gym story. You're so hilarious, Kim. LOL!!! I loved the way you put your words together. It's a shame when formula change and the new one just isn't as good. I've experienced way too many holy grail products changing formula only to end up having to search for new products since my HG aren't working with the new formula anymore.
