Bridal Spring 2016

I have not kept up with the latest bridal trends in years! A long time ago (in a galaxy far away), I worked part time for a ritzy wedding boutique (starting college). I read all kinds of bridal magazines and kept up with the latest trends. So it was interesting to see these (such a variety and something for everyone). I love full gowns (there's just something about them), but I also love short and tea length gowns (as seen in the Oscar de la Renta collection). We always asked the bride to be, where she was getting married. Location plays an important part in what type of dress you choose, the time of day and also season you plan on getting married in. Budget is another factor, but we'll skip that for now! HaHaHa My mom got married in the morning (church) and wore a short (above the knee) dress. I thought that was pretty trendy and sassy for back then. The only risque request I ever encountered was someone wanting a light pink wedding dress. Well lately, Vera Wang has been taking HUGE risks with wedding gown designs? Have you seen the entire Vera Wang 2016 Bridal Collection? Most of them, you see the bride's bra & panties (I didn't include those pics here). I was like, where the hell are you gonna where wear that? I've always admired Vera Wang's wedding gown designs. I even like some of her black wedding dresses! But some of these...ummmm. I can't get on board with it. LOL Do you have a preference in wedding dresses? My favorites from these are the 1st Marchesa & Monique Lhuillier dresses (love the folds in the bottom portion) and the 2nd to last dress (really short one) from the Oscar de la Renta Collection. I will be reading blogs later today :) (pictures & credits style.com)

  1. These are so stunning! I've only been to one wedding in my life but with the dozen dress shows on tv now its fun to pass the time looking at all the variety and choices there are in the wedding gown world. Makes me wonder how I'll ever be able to actually decide on a dress once I get married haha.

  2. these dresses are so stunning, its hard to pick my favorite! I always pictured when i got married I would wear a ball gown with sweetheart/fitted top with sparkles, but now im more into lace! i am obsessed with all of these, particularly oscar de la renta and the vera wang! i recently have become a fan of galia lahav gowns, sooo risque with low backs but the lace and details are amazing! oh the dreams girls have of getting married! xo

  4. LOL...I guess Vera Wang wants the bride to show the groom what waiting for him later:D Anyhoo, I really do love all the gowns here, but I do agree that Marchesa and Monique Lhullier's collections are oh-so-gorgeous and my faves too.

  9. Oh I didn't know you worked in a bridal boutique Kim! :)

I remember shopping for my wedding dress - I had all these ideas of gowns I liked and I tried them on and they all sucked....ha! I went with a completely different style in the end, I really liked it, was happy with my choice even if it wasn't what I had imagined at first! :)

  10. Love the Monique Lhuillier Bridal 2016 collection. So beautiful and classic. I would love to wear one of those wedding dresses on my big day one day Kim. Hehehe ;-)

  11. I love the romantic and elegant vibes of Marchesa and Oscar de la Renta. Of course I am biased towards Monique Lhuillier since I was lucky enough to wear one of her simple designs for my wedding, but her collection is still on point!

  13. It sounds crazy, and I know it would drive my mom to distraction, but if I ever got married again, I would absolutely want a black gown - Vera Wang's dresses are so inspiring, I think.

  14. I am attending a few weddings coming up, but only as a guest. But, if it was my big day I'd love a Monique Lhuillier or Oscar de la Renta gown.

  15. All those dresses are so beautiful! I don't think I can get on board with those sheer Vera wang ones either lol!! Why would anyone want their undies showing LOL!!
This makes me want to get married again!! My dress was like my favorite part of my wedding (besides getting married lol!)

  16. I've always been a HUGE fan of Oscar de la Renta's wedding dresses. They are exquisite, timeless and elegant. I wish I had the budget to wear one for my wedding but I would had to take a second mortgage for it. LOL!

  17. All the collections are stunning! For my own personal tastes, I would lean towards J Mendel since I love a sleek, simple gown.

  18. Vera Wang really took it to a whole different level. I got married in a church, but the reception was at a county club. It was a strapless, floor length gown with a medium train. I picked the first dress I tried on. It was made for me:-)

  19. Such beautiful gowns! Not that crazy about the Vera Wang. Seems like she was trying to be a little too edgy.

  20. When I become a Bride and if I can afford it, I would choose between Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier or Oscar De La Renta. For now, I can dream.

  22. I think Vera Wang was my favourite one among them - I remember seeing the presentation when the images were released thinking how beautiful it looked. I don't mind the transparency - I think, just like with the runway, it is done for the show purposes only and the actual dresses will come with a slip or something like that.
The funny thing is that as much as I like looking at the dresses, I never really wanted one and picked my own from a regular shop, just chose the prettiest one, something I could wear for special occasions once in a while, too. Never been a big wedding/big dress/big celebration kind of girl, I guess. :)

  23. Thats so cool you worked in that industry! I used to look through bridal dresses and I realized I don't really want to go for a traditional look.. the Vera Wang ones are actually my favorite here! I also saw a wedding tux that was cool, but I don't remember what brand it was

  24. How interesting you worked in this area many years ago - that goes some way in explaining your excellent taste in bridal selections.. all of these are ever so beautiful! Marchesa is undoubtedly my number one choice and I can't see that changing, well, unless of course Elie Saab is mentioned! ;)

  26. The sale advisor of a wedding dress boutique wanted me to buy a light pink on! I didn't like it since a typical wedding dress is actually white... :-D It look like #2 by Carolina Herrera btw! Vera Wang's designs are gorgeous but black for a wedding...? Nay! :-DD

Lovely post, Kim! Great job! <3

  27. I love the lace dresses best which surprises me. Don't know why as I love lace dresses and skirts--just didn't go for the lace back when--when I got married. The look sure appeals to me now, though! :) T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  35. I don't keep up with wedding gowns too, but sometimes I will browse the wedding magazines (when I'm bored). Holy!! Those Vera Wang gowns look more editorial than wearing it actually on the day. Can you imagine wearing it in front of all your close friends and relatives? I love simple, strapless gown and I'm really like the hair down vs the typical buns. It just looks more relaxed and trendier.

  36. Kim, I had to click. I just had to click that Vera Wang's link and OMG! What was she thinking? I don't think the gowns are suitable to be wedding gowns at all. To be honest, they look trashy even as she tries to create a soft romantic feel.

I realized from my own wedding that a lot of designs I like in magazines and on the Internet didn't suit me. I had to try out a couple of gowns before I found our the kind of designs and cuts that suit me. Hence, the dream wedding gown that a girl always envision? It might really be just a dream.
