Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer & Pressed Powder Review And Swatches

When I purchased Too Faced's Born This Way Foundation, the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer (that I had been using) didn't work well with it (it caused the foundation to be too dry & matte on my DRY SKIN). This problem made me look for another primer and powder to use with the foundation. That led me to purchase Too Faced's Primed & Poreless Face Primer and Too Faced's Pressed Powder.

Sweet-Bittersweet-NotSweet

supersweet(run & buy it) sweet(really good,buy it) bittersweet(ok, issues)not sweet(not good,don't buy this stuff)

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Face Primer $30 - Sweet

After not particularly caring for Too Faced's Hangover Rx Primer, I was apprehensive to purchase this primer. However, I'm glad I did because I'm REALLY impressed with it's performance! It does a really good job priming the skin on the face, blurring/covering flaws and the Born This Way Foundation laid beautifully atop it. I decided to compare it to two other primers I've used and am currently using.

1. In Comparison To Benefit's POREfessional - It beats it! It does! Anyone that loves POREfessional, try and get a sample of Primed & Poreless! When I swatched the two side by side on my hand, the coverage of Primed & Poreless was better! It filled in lines better! It's ODORLESS, compared to SCENTED POREfessional. That's a JOY for SENSITIVE SKIN types! Also, Primed & Poreless doesn't FLAKE or BREAKUP upon application, as POREfessional does. Yeah, you can dust those tid bits off, but they can be a nuisance. Primed & Poreless is $30. POREfessional is $31. So there's not much difference in price. I just encourage you to sample it at the store. I think you'll be surprised. I know I was.

2. In Comparison To Smashbox's Photo Finish - Primed & Poreless is impressive, but doesn't quite compare to Smashbox when it comes to coverage. Smashbox does an EXCELLENT job blurring & filling in lines and Primed & Poreless does the same but not to the same degree. But again, Smashbox didn't work well with Born This Way for me (too dry & matte). Primed & Poreless was more moisturizing and worked beautifully.

Too Faced Primed & Poreless Pressed Powder $30 - Bittersweet

This is a Pressed Powder, Priming Powder and Finishing Veil! WOW, so is this any good? It's ok. Let me talk about my experience doing each.

1. As A Pressed Powder - This powder comes with a really cute powder puff. I'm not a big fan of these, because I feel they hold on to bacteria and germs, but I guess you can sanitize it (not sure how it would hold up). As a pressed powder, it does a nice job taking away the shine on various areas of your face. I still prefer a pressed powder matched to one's foundation, like Urban Decay's Pressed Finishing Powder.

2. As A Priming Powder - This is a NEW concept to me! I've never heard of a priming powder, but what you do is apply this powder to your face and THEN APPLY your foundation/makeup. I was skeptical, but it gave a very nice finish.

3. As A Finishing Veil - This is when you want to lightly dust (w/a powder brush) OVER the makeup you have applied to your face. This was just ok to me (using it this way). The lighter your complexion, the better this will work for you (because this powder is white)! For darker skin tones (like myself), if you pile this on you're going to look ashy. One or two swipes across the face is enough. No more! It's not as translucent as I expected it to be.

  4. Oh wow I never knew you could do so many things with powder! that's pretty cool, even if not all the ways were the best for your skin :)

I was in store today wondering what the difference was between a foundation powder and a finishing powder - the lady pointed them both out and then picked one up (I forget which) as she said that would be better for me. She used all manner of brushes and products, and I wasn't really too impressed at the end, haha. I think I'll have to try another store to find new makeup. I really like my current one, so it's hard to switch!

Don't know how you find the time to try all these out - it's pretty awesome you know so much about makeup, I was stunned and most of the talk went over my head talking to the beauty guru today haha!

  5. I didn't know powder primers are a thing now! Must check that out. And I'm a really big Laura Mercier foundation primer fan. I should check out this Too Faced one, coz it's cheaper too:D

  7. I love my too faced oil free primer and glad this one works too. Such a pity about the powder. I love using powders to set my makeup but don't want it to make my face look ashy. I enjoyed your youtube video in your too faced foundation review post and seeing how you apply all the products together. xxxx

  8. Have you ever tried the ELF Poreless Face Primer? For $6 I think it's actually pretty good! I haven't tried this Too Faced primer, but I might grab a sample of it and see how the two compare. I agree about powder puffs... they are cute and convenient, but have to be germy. Then again, carrying brushes around is a pain...

  9. It's interesting how certain primers work better with certain products. I guess it depends on the formulation. This primer sounds good to me since it's unscented and doesn't flake which is always an issue with me when it comes to primers. Bummer about the powder.

  11. I generally don't use a primer because I find most of them leave those flaky bits behind, but maybe I will have to give this one a go! Although to be honest, I'm not yet totally sure if it would make a difference to how my foundation looks, so many in a few years ;)

  12. Well I am glad to hear that the primer was good! I have trouble with powders too though, I feel like either it doesn't absorb enough, or it is too much and I feel like it is caked on and leaves my skin too dry. :(

  13. So sad it didn't work out with other product like Smashbox!! Great idea to compare both, very useful for us!! ;) And I'm not a powder puff's either therefore I'm using my MAC brushes instead! The concept of applying the powder was definitely new to me too, glad it worked out though, Kim!! Thank you so much for your wonderful words and support, my dear! You're gorgeous!!! <3

  15. These products looks good. Too bad it will not work too well for darker skin tones.

  16. I have really been wanting to try both of these products. I really love the Benefit Pore-fessional, so I'm glad this works just as well. I have oily skin, so I think this powder would work well for me. I've never tried a priming powder either. That's a new concept to me too, but I would be willing to try it! Great review! Very helpful.

  17. I'd never heard of a priming powder before, but it makes great sense as I've read powders can prime lips and eyelashes (helps hold the lipstick longer and make the mascara look thicker). T. http://tickledpinkwoman.blogspot.com

  18. I have never tried two faced before, but I heard so many good things about it. Moisturizing is always good. That's better than the last review I read. Lol!

  19. Kim, I'm almost done with my powder. I should try this out! Thanks for sharing. Oh man, seriously need to lose weight, can't fit into my dresses from last year. Lol!!

  20. Awh I'm a bit disappointed on the powder! It's been on my wishlist for a while now but for the price it doesn't sound like anything special. I am very curious about the priming aspect of it though, I've always heard to apply powders over cream or liquid products so it's an interesting concept!

Cannot WAIT for the Love Flush review tomorrow :D I want one so bad.

  21. I first heard the concept of using powder to prime the face from Wayne Goss! He did a YouTube video on it many months ago but never tried it myself. I do think the powder performs just okay for the price, I mean if I pay that much then I was the whole nine yards! LOL!
