Murad Soothing Skin & Lip Care Review

PR Sample - How do you take care of your lips? I've always used a lip scrub (exfoliation) and lip balm (moisture).  Murad's Soothing Skin and Lip Care claims it does BOTH (exfoliate w/BHAs & moisturize w/Lanolin & Vitamin E) in one process. This product mimics the consistency of petroleum jelly. It's very thick. It's very rich. It has a clinical scent. When you apply it, your lips will initially feel very moisturized. In as little as an hour, the exfoliation process starts! Any dead skin you have, gently starts to shed (it gets gummy). So don't use this in public, in front of company or if you plan on having a romantic evening. Gummy, shedding lips are not sexy! LOL I used this twice and keep in mind I exfoliate my lips nearly every other day. I still had shedding. The pictures I took below are after the SECOND time I used it. I seriously thought this was just lip gloss at first and wasn't aware of the exfoliation part (see ALWAYS READ LOL). My lips felt both soft and smooth afterwards, but they didn't feel as moisturized as I expected. They weren't dry, but I felt I needed to apply lip balm on my lips (see pictures below). I give this product a Bittersweet rating, because of the lack of moisture achieved after the entire process (Murad does have a rapid collagen infusion for lips) and the fact it wouldn't be wise to wear this in front of people. I mean, who wants to look at someone with shedding lips? This product works (except for adding moisture), but it's what you have to go through! Do you know what I mean? I plan to continue exfoliating my lips while bathing and applying lip balm afterwards. I'm just too vain to go through all of this. LOL Those are my thoughts!

  2. Thanks for letting us know about what happens when you apply this. My luck I would have put it on before a date haha! It sounds intriguing to me...maybe as a nighttime treatment? But I think I will pass.

  8. It's good that this works well on the exfoliation front but I'm with you that I'd expect my lips to feel moisturized afterwards. I've only recently gotten into a habit of regularly exfoliating my lips and it makes such a big difference.

  9. No matter what product I use, and I've tried them all, my lips seem to stay dry and cracked. I can hydrate other parts of my skin, but never my lips. But - it looks like you go real results with this product, Kim! I'm impressed. I'll be looking to try it myself.

  10. Exfoliating my lips never works for me so I gave up. They just seem to go back to the same state. I just keep using lip balm. I do brush my lips every time I brush my teeth though (that may sound strange but it seems to work well).

  11. When I worked with Smashbox I swore by their sugar lip scrub, it was amazing and it tasted really good ;)
Then when I ran out and did not repurchase and have used regular scrub on the lips since.. and lip balm.

  12. Hmm, I actually like the sounds of this, Kim. I mean I wouldn't use it out of the house (lol!) but I think it'll be interesting to see if it will help my lips. I always use lip balms so hopefully it wouldn't bother me as much. Great review as always, Kim!

  19. That sounds like a little too muchfor some smooth lips, and I almost feel like it's peeling off a protective layer of skin. Glad you posted this for everyone to know the real deal. Hope all is good Kim!

  23. I sometimes wonder what it is, what makes our lips so dry, because most of as are good at moisturizing lips, yet somehow they still are dry. Could it be our diet, environment..

  24. Nice to hear that it actually does the exfoliating part, but I agree with you. I have a lip tube with salt scrubber in it, which is good because most lip exfoliators have sugar in them and I cannot use it. Thanks for the review. <3

  30. Oh gosh haha I've never seen a product like this before! My lips are always crazy dry though so while I love the idea of this giving a nice exfoliation each use, the lack of moisturizing afterwards is a bit of a downer :( Keeping the two things separate seems more rewarding after all haha.

  31. very interesting product! besides keeping in mind we shouldn't use it in public, there is nothing else that we need to worry about---or so it seems to me. I would be willing to try it despite the clinical smell.

  32. Looks like this product is very good. The packaging is simple and easy to apply.

  33. deep that would have been terrible if you accidental wore this out in public! at least it does exfoliate well..

  34. LOL! I would have been the one to apply this before a date and end up with chunks of skin on my lips. Thanks for the heads up.
My lips are sooo dry and they have gotten worse as I have gotten older, I have to exfoliate my lips quite often to keep them smooth. So the lack of moisture from this product is a bit of a let down...I suppose I could just apply a balm after.

    Fab review Kim!
