Catrice Cosmetics Absolute Rose & Absolute Nude Eyeshadow Palette Review & Swatches

It wasn't a good sign when I opened my ULTA box (purchased months ago) and saw the Catrice Cosmetics Absolute Rose & Absolute Nude Eyeshadow Palettes I ordered. Why you say? It was a powdery MESS! I know packages go through hell during the shipping process, but these were really messy! I wiped them off, prayed for the best and finally swatched them the other day. They are POWDERY! First of all, I ended up with more eye shadow on my clothes than hands (can you imagine applying these to your eyelids --> MAJOR FALL OUT). Secondly, I had to swipe and swipe and swipe (yes, that's 3 swipes) just to achieve the color you see on the back of my hands below. Then, I had to blow off the excess! I'm chucking these. Into the trash they go! This was my first time trying the brand Catrice. Have you tried any of their products? They're cheap, but other cheap brands don't have this kind of problem. I was not a happy camper about these. I'm just glad I purchased them on sale.

  1. ah yes, they don't seem to have much pigmentation.

  2. This is a really lovely, honest review. I think I prefer the rose colours but you're right in that they aren't massively pigmented. However, they are affordable so maybe we shouldn't complain too much xx

  3. That sucks, Kim! Good thing you got them on sale. And cheap doesn't necessarily mean the product has to be sub-par. I find WetNWild and Coastal Scents to be awesome, and they're not expensive!

  4. To bad they are powdery the shades are stunning.

  5. I can see how powdery the cases are even after you cleaned them up, they would be really difficult to wear! Such a shame you couldn't use the palettes, but it's not too bad considering they were on sale I guess. Could have been worse, you could have paid full price!

  6. Lol I know what u mean, I got the nude one and had the same problem, unfortunately, even though the packaging and the shades were appealing. The brand is good Kim, I love their lippies, blushes and some other things, I think is just this range of palette. xo

  7. It doesn't matter how inexpensive a brand it, if it is crap, it shouldn't be bought! Shame you went through such a bad time with these!

  8. Major fail!
I am so sorry about this bad experience. This is way too cheap. Thanks for your honest review. I will stay away from this one.

  9. sorry to hear about your bad experience....I have never tried a palette from Catrice, but I have one eyebrow cadnice kit I'm very happy with....well, you never know.

  10. I've tried this brand before and its done ok, with the exception of a mascara that I threw away almost immediately.
The odd thing is some of their products are made in Poland and the production there tends to be very qualitative...

  11. Sorry to hear... The palette is beautiful, though. Shame about the quality. x

  12. I haven't heard of either of these before. I don't really look at any nude palettes anymore ever since I bought the Naked basics haha. It's justtoo good!

  13. Some people rave of about Catrice products, but the few experiences I've had with them have been awful. I don't blame you for throwing these palettes away, Kim, but what a disappointment :(

  14. Oh no!! I hate powdery shadows! I've heard a lot of people rave about Catrice like others have said, but I've never tried it before. I actually didn't know that Ulta sold it! Too bad they were junk, and eve with a lot of swipes in searching they don't look that pigmented. Thanks for your honest review Kim!

  15. I have read a few reviews on Irish blogs that stated these are lovely, eek but they are PR samples though and dang, I thought the reviews were honest. I have tried Catrice lip liner which is similar to Essence (they are sister brands after all), a mascara that doesn't do anything for my pathetic lashes and a foundation which I love but that's the extend of it.

Sorry about this disaster that you had with the palettes, Kim, what a shame really.

  16. Thanks for the review Kim, I've actually not used these before. But, I have seen many bloggers rave about them. I like neutral eye shadows and use a Naked palette at the moment that I love. I also agree with Emmy, sometimes inexpensive isn't always bad. I was recently introduced to the brand Milani sent to me by my sister and I love that lip colour almost as much as my Chanel lipstick ... almost! haha. <3

  18. Hmm, it's always disappointing to try a product and find it's not what you were expecting! I've never actually tried anything by Catrice before, there seems to be hugely mixed opinions/reviews online!

  19. I had no idea Ulta was selling Catrice now! Good thing I saw your review before I placed an order for palettes. Catrice has defintely been a brand I've been wanting to try. Sorry these were a hot mess!

  20. Ugh what a bummer! I think that my favorite cheap brand of makeup is Elf. Everything is honestly $2-$5. You can't beat that!

  21. The shades are pretty, too bad it's too powdery! I've heard of them but never seen it for sale near me. Thanks for your review!

  22. Oh no! I've never heard of this brand. It's never a good sign when it's out of the package like that. I hate it when that happens, such disappointment. Thanks for the honest review.

  24. I so dislike when that happens...it annoys me really. I don't want all the powder on me because sometimes you don't even notice it fell on you and for it to be messy to apply...no!! Such a shame, glad it was cheap. But, like you say there are other cheap brands that don't do this. xx

  25. Note to self stay FAR away from this palette! I think powdery shadows are the absolute worse! That's too bad the palette lacks pigmentation. Great review!
