Sponsored: A couple of months ago, Aveeno sent me full-size samples of their
Absolutely Ageless Skincare System. It's new. Skincare has always been challenging for me. I have dry, sensitive and I don't think I've ever mentioned this on my blog before...but I also have reactive skin (which didn't occur until I got older). When I say reactive, my skin is very sensitive to the sun. I HAVE to wear sunscreen (face) and a hat (or around my eyes will swell) when I'm in the sun for long periods of time. I'm also sensitive to things like shrimp cocktail sauce, horseradish etc. I'm saying all of this for a reason. My skin reacted to this collection. I used it for about 2 weeks and breakouts started appearing on my chin. First one...then a second one... then two more. So I stopped. They didn't appear anywhere else on my face. I wouldn't call them pimples! They were just little red marks. I will say, the ONLY other cleanser that really worked for me was
Cetaphil (recommended by my dermatologist). It wasn't until last year (2015) that I found my holy grail skincare system with
REN Skincare. The only other skincare that came close was Aveeno's Ultra Calming Skincare Collection, but the REN worked better for me in controlling breakouts. So I use REN and I still use
Aveeno's Ultra Calming Night Cream. I gave my Absolutely Ageless Collection to my mom, because she loves their
Positively Radiant Collection (which I can't use, because it's too much for my skin). She started using this, and then a pimple appeared between her nose & lip. So she stopped using this! You have to realize, my mom is in her 60's so she never gets pimples. HaHaHa So I don't know if she was starting to have a reaction. We both stopped. Again, none of our other skin was affected. It seemed targeted to certain areas. I don't know if it's the blackberry or what!?! The cleanser is also a gel and I don't do well with gels. I LOVED the eye cream! It was very moisturizing to my under eyes. It really felt good. The night cream feels the same as the Ultra Calming Night Cream, only it has that blackberry scent. I don't eat blackberries, so I'm not sure if that is the reason why my skin was reacting to things. Somebody else, could have an entirely different experience with this collection. But I had to let you know what I experienced. All but one breakout has gone away! But it's slowly healing. If you look at that
Duran Duran concert video, you'll see it on my chin right under my lip. So those are my thoughts. If interested, I would first buy only the cleanser and see how you react to it before purchasing the entire collection.

That's too bad these caused a reaction on your skin, Kim! That's happened to me before where things have just cause angry red bumps but not necessarily blemishes. I hate it when that happens and it's hard to get rid of them, at least for me! these sound nice with the blackberries but I think I'll skip trying them because my skin is sensitive too!
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear you reacted to these products.
ReplyDeleteHowever I am still convinced that Aveeno does it right most of the time :)
That's so weird that both you and your mom reacted to the line. Definitely a heads up for someone like me who has SUPER sensitive skin. I had to give ALL of my face makeup to my step-daughter because I recently discovered that they were the reasons I had been breaking out so bad for years. This unfortunately included Tarte :( I will continue to use their eye and lip products, but no more face. I always appreciate your honest reviews, they're always so helpful! I hope you're having the best week so far, beauty!

Shame that both you snd your mum reacted to it Kim! Especially as the blackberry scent sounds lovely!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice to just try one thing from the range first to see how it suits your skin.

Yikes Kim! I know we both have sensitive and dry skin but it sounds like yours is even more reactive than mine. It's shame that you had a bad reaction to this line but at least you were able to quickly isolate the problem. I had a bad breakout last week and it took me a few days to figure out what was causing it. I don't do well with gel cleansers either. They seem to be stripping in general.
ReplyDeleteI normally love Aveeno products, but I am really not a fan of scented things on my face :(

Ah sorry they reacted with your skin but yeah there always going to be some misses

My skin is reactive, too, and for me, finding the right cleanser is an ongoing battle. So far, I've only ever found one that didn't lead to reactions - but I also react to so many other things, like foods, stress and environment, that it can be hard to know exactly what it to blame. I do find gel cleansers are particularly challenging for reactive skin, and I try to use foam ones as much as possible. Thanks for an honest review, Kim!

That is too bad! i love their lotion and have sensitive skin so wouldn't try out the cleaner. I broke out to something recently, but don't know what. I need to isolate if I'm reacting to anything too!

I love you for your honesty, Kim, thank you and I'll be skipping this. I recently had a serum that broke me out too and the strange thing is, it only broke out the right side of my face, none on my forehead or the left side. I was like WTF? LOL!

I never try any products that contain blackberry I do not think that will work for me. I'm always cautious what I put on my face I had a reaction with clinique facial wash go figure you just never know.
ReplyDeleteOh wow that's no good you got a reaction, they looked so good as well!

I have super sensitive skin too, Kim. And some products give me little red dots, not pimples, and they are so hard to get rid of. I'm sorry you had a reaction to this...but not everything will work for us. Thanks for sharing!

ReplyDeleteI can get reactions quite easily, I had a really bad one after trying something new this year (even around my neck) so I know how annoying it gets. Sorry to hear that it gave you a reaction.

I haven't tried any of their products but would love to! Great review :)

I would be freaked out if something new I used gave me pimples or spots on my face :( sorry to hear that Kim, but at least you know what works for you!

That stinks Kim! You gave it a good try! I feel your pain. When I eat anything peanut (including something cooked in peanut oil) my skin reacts. Since moving into our new home I have had continuous breakouts on 1 cheek that I am still trying to figure out. I am beginning to wonder if I have developed rosacea in my 40s which can be brought on by stress! I always thought by this age skin troubles (other than aging) would be over.
ReplyDeleteAmazing tips, thank you!I enjoyed your post very much, keep sharing dear!

My face gets the same reaction when I use products that contains bee venoms. Ah, the things our skin has to go through as product reviewers.
ReplyDeleteThese products sound a bit harsh as they broke you and your mom out. I am always scared to test out new skincare products because you never know if it will work for you unless you test them. Hope you skin cleared and feels and looks better. xoxo
