Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir 'Red Bow Tie' is Bittersweet
Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir 'Red Bow Tie' (022) Lipstick
The outer casing for this lipstick is a clear plastic, with Guerlain inscribed in Silver. You pull the lipstick out via the plastic heart (or some would say Ace of Spades). This packaging matches their popular perfume bottles (which I have yet to purchase, but really want to). The lipstick itself is actually housed in a black case and you use the "heart" to twist it up. This packaging definitely reminds me of Dior's Lip Glow. Despite being plastic, it's not flimsy at all. It's hard & sturdy and would look great on your vanity. I've only tried one other Guerlain Lipstick ... Love Kiss and I must say BOTH were VERY MOISTURIZING! So that must be the norm for Guerlain lipsticks. This lipstick feels like a lipstick + moisturizing lip balm. Love the packaging. Love the formula. Now the color! On my hand & when applied to my lips, this came off as a blue red. There are a couple of reds in this collection, but Red Bow Tie was one of the deeper reds (that's why I selected it). This red is nice, but it's not my favorite red. Marc Jacobs Neo Noir is still my all-time favorite. LOL This lipstick is offered in 20 colors, so the shade selection is plentiful. However, if you can only get this at Nordstrom and you don't have one near you (like moi) guessing leads you to this. HaHaHa There aren't many swatches out there in the blogosphere. I think Temptalia just swatched these. You'll notice the shades are MUCH LIGHTER than what you see in the tube. I was thinking about getting more, but all the other colors seem so light. I kept going back & forth as to how to grade this and I went with Bittersweet. I just think you can do better if you want a RED lipstick. Plus, these are far from cheap! I on the other hand collect for MANY reasons (packaging etc), but when grading I always try to keep my readers in mind (you're there for the lipstick). Excuse my foundation. I'm testing one that was sent to me (and it has me looking ashy LOL or it might be because it's very overcast/rainy... I'll have to test it on a more sunny day)Guerlain La Petite Robe Noir 'Red Bow Tie' (022) Nail Lacquer
With this nail lacquer you still have the same great packaging, but the "heart" comes off to reveal a black cap. The brush to apply the nail lacquer is attached to the black cap. The brush is great for this nail lacquer. It applied evenly. It dried quickly. I only applied one coat to my nails below. You NEED A TOP COAT with this nail lacquer! I didn't apply one the first time and my manicure only lasted 3 days. LOL With a top coat, you'll get 5 days wear. Guerlain sells a TOP & BASE COAT (in this collection w/the same bottle style). I think they did that on purpose. LOL It's a great red! Do you have a similar red in your collection? Probably. I purchased it to match the lipstick. Honestly, I just wanted this packaging to add to my collection ;) I'm more impressed with the packaging than formulas. LOL
Mhm, I like the red, but the packaging of the nailpolish is prettier than the actual color :) like you said!

You rock the red.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a great combo, Kim! The packaging is draw dropping. I love the color red on you!
ReplyDeleteI love how you keep us in mind when doing your rating, Kim:) As much as I do love the packaging of this Guerlain lippie, the fact that the shades are lighter than what you see makes it really hard to gauge the actual reds on the computer monitor if ordering online...sigh....anyhoo, both the lippie and nail lacquer looks fab on you!
ReplyDeleteBoth reds look beautiful on you Kim! And the packaging is stunning! Thank you for considering all factors with your ratings. I don't really wear much red makeup cause it's not really me but I always admire those who can pull it off like yourself :)
ReplyDeleteBoth actually look beautiful on you, Kim but I expect more with the price tag. I personally don't find both to be outstanding and as you said, you are more impressed with the packaging than formula so I guess these are more of collector items. Thank you for your honest review as always, Kim.

The packaging is definitely collector-worthy. It's a bummer you didn't like the colors because I like the lipstick on you! Thanks for letting us know the real deal!

I'm always so intrigued by the packaging of Guerlain products, but the price puts me off - no matter how much I love the brand, I just can't justify spending so much on a lipstick. The formula does sound amazing, though! Personally, I think if I were buying from Guerlain, I would want to look for a perfume... but that would mean changing my signature scent, and I'm not quite there yet. Thanks for another great review, Kim!

The packaging is gorgeous on both products! And they are both very pretty shades of red! That's too bad the lipstick comes off lighter than expected though, and that you have other reds you enjoy more. I am a sucker for cute packaging though like you are!
ReplyDeleteThe packaging is fabulous. It is too bad the products don't live up to their name.
ReplyDeleteOMG, how cute is this packaging!? That alone would compel me to one to buy it, so I don't blame you, haha! I actually think the red looks phenomenal on you, it looks more like a cherry red in the pic, so pretty! On your hand it looks more matte (I have no clue how to properly describe makeup formulas, haha), but on your lips it looks really glossy! I also love the nail polish, again, the packaging is so cute and I love that you said it dries fast, which is always awesome. I don't know if it's the angle of the photos, but the bottle seems quite small, so I don't know if I'd purchase it, since I'm sure it's pricey. Then again, the packaging is too darn cute, haha! Thanks for yet again another great review and I hope you're having a wonderful week so far, beauty!

I like it - and I don't think i had ever read that red could give a blue hue :)
ReplyDeleteThere is something about this packaging that calls my attention even though I am not a fan of clear plastic or acrylic. This product could be very well made by Kate Spade.
The packaging and so luxe and gorgeous but for the price, you expect more. Thanks for the honest review Kim!
ReplyDeleteWow these look really beautiful Kim!! You really look great in red!! This will be something to add to my wish list. Thanks for the review.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful end of the week and weekend.

The lipstick does look like it's more on the sheer side for a red-on-the-fly type color -- one where you don't have to bust out the liner and take all the time to get it perfect. Maybe that's just me! lol It still looks gorgeous on you, though! Just put the MJ Neo Noir on my list. I'm a sucker for a red lipstick. The packaging for both is seriously cute. I don't think I've tried a Guerlain nail polish before! I'm a luxury beauty junkie, so I need fix that! lol
ReplyDeleteThat lipstick is stunning, even thought it's not your personal favourite Kim I think it's such a nice shade on you! :) I really like the packaging of these too although I agree the nail polish isn't the best. The wear time is pretty low and it's not really a red that 'wows', although it's nice enough.
ReplyDeleteAway From The Blue Blog
Thanks for sharing your thoughts about this Guerlain collection Kim. I have to say, the packaging does still the show, so I entirely understand why you were drawn to it. I think I'd probably nix the nail lacquer and just opt to try the lipstick if ever I got it. Although, I usually wear deep berry or really pigmented reddish hues.

Bahaha, packaging will always get me too - and these have such cute ones! xD

I love Guerlain. Their packaging is super stunning. It's a shame that red bow tie is a bittersweet product.I own makeup products that I bought just for the packaging too. Us beauty junkies just cannot resist beautiful and cute packaging ;-)
ReplyDeleteI am reminded of Louboutin. More for the look than use.

The packaging looks so chic. The colour looks great on you and looks so deep.
ReplyDeleteI don't go to Sephora often but when I was there recently (and ULTA) and saw some of the products I thought of you and your blog :) I immediately thought "Oh, Kim talked about this" lol :)
