Exactly how quickly and how much your skin wrinkles or sags depends on more than just age though. Chemical exposure, too much sun, and even your diet can influence the health of your skin. But the bottom line is that you can't avoid all skin problems forever. So, the next best thing is to treat them as soon as they appear.
Taking Care of Your Skin Early On
The more you care for your skin early on, the longer you can probably delay signs of aging. If you have a good daily skincare routine in place, such as using cleansers, moisturizers, and sunscreen, you probably won't need medical assistance from things like laser skincare devices for a good long while. If you already have damaged skin, it would be a wise choice to implement some sort of skincare product to treat that specific damage (the Crepe Erase reviews I have read are pretty good). Eventually though, you may need medical intervention to treat your skin anyway.Types of Medical Skincare Procedures to Try
One of the most obvious medical skincare procedures you can try is a laser device, but it's also one of the most complicated choices. Should you have an ablative treatment to remove the outer layer of skin and any debris? Is it better to use a non-ablative treatment to trigger more collagen production in your body? Do you need a Fraxel treatment that treats all skin layers at once? The answer will depend on your exact skin type and other issues you may be dealing with, such as acne. That's why it's so important to look into your laser treatment options thoroughly before booking an appointment.Similarly, you have a lot of options if you choose a microdermabrasion or microneedling technique. You can pick from different devices, needle lengths, or abrasiveness level. It's a bit like choosing a type of sandpaper to use on woodwork. But in this case it's best to let your skincare expert pick for you, as long as they explain their choice. They will know exactly which type will work best for you.
Other skincare options also offer variations. For instance, sound wave treatments include radio frequency and ultrasound procedures. Intense pulsed light (IPL) devices also vary, as do injectables, such as Botox.
Skin Treatment Results May Not Show Themselves Right Away
Unless you have a fast-acting treatment like Botox injections, remember that most skincare treatments take quite a while to work, and repeated appointments will be required. So, you shouldn't expect to go in for one sound wave treatment session or laser treatment appointment and come out with your skin looking much different than it did when you went in.A final thing to consider is that any skincare treatment that focuses on penetrating into the lower skin layers to induce collagen production will take a while to do that. When you walk out of your skincare appointment, your body will still be in the process of reacting to the treatment. So, some signs of improvement after a single session of certain skincare procedures could take hours or days to show themselves. So, it's important to take a little time to let one treatment work before you have another or decide that any given treatment is ineffective.
This was really informative- thank you!

I hope I take good enough care of my skin to avoid things like this! Medical treatments have always kind of scared me a little bit!
ReplyDeleteI haven't tried any medical treatments for skin tightening but I think my mom already had. The only medical treatment I've had is a laser treatment to remove my upper lip hair tho. xD

Very informative. I don't think I would ever try a medical procedure since it is risky. Then if something goes wrong, you look funny. :) I will be sticking to the creams!
ReplyDeleteI'm only 23 but I'm hoping that looking after my skin well will help me as I grow older, I really would like to avoid the likes of botox or treatments!

Prevention is always the best anti-aging measure but medical procedures have sure come a long way these days.
ReplyDeleteThis is a very informative post! I am only at my early twenties but I do care a lot about my skin, specially because I've had waay to many issues with it. I can say that vitamine A and sunscreen are the best anti-aging treatments, I was told this by a friend who is also a dermatologist, so I use them everyday. Prevention is so important and not only for age signs but other skin issues.

I've always wanted to try laser treatment for my acne scars, but it's just not a priority at the moment...and also am scared of it TBH. Maybe, in a few years, who knows?
ReplyDeleteHope you're having a fab weekend, Kim!
Yeah this is something i think about once in a while. Once your over 30 there are changes. If you take care of your skin like I do then you can coast for a long time. But if I had the money and I knew if would go well I would not think twice about having something done. i am currently reading Lee Grant's autobiography and she had a traditional facelift at 30. Granted it was back in the 60s and the treatments they have today did not exist. And being a female actor back then was even harder then today. She said it made a big difference and allowed her to work longer. Sad in a way but a true story. And some ways things have not changed all that much. Now there is even agism against men in the work place.

oh I had no idea it can take hours to day to show some signs of treatment. That is definitely new to me.

This is such a great post! So informative. I swear by lime juice and honey, Kim! Nothing rejuvenate my skin better.
ReplyDeleteI'm convinced that wearing sunscreen from a young age has really helped my skin now. It's so important to start good habits early on, but it's nice to know that there are procedures you can get to give you a bit of help. I would love to try microdermabrasion some day. Thanks for this information!
