Beauty Bakerie Hot Cocoa Set Of 6 Lip Whip Gift Set Review & Swatches

Have you heard of the makeup company Beauty Bakerie? They're new! I learned about the brand this year via social media. What caught my eye, was the company's packaging and overall "sweet" theme. All of their products are named after delicious sweet treats! The other thing that I admired about the company was the owner. She was a teenage parent, overcame breast cancer and started this company (young entrepreneur). I enjoy her social media presence, because she supports other brands, encourages women, and promotes giving to others that are battling cancer. She shares their stories and she gives to many of their causes. I wanted to give you an overview of the brand, because they're new to me and I felt this information would be useful to you.

I purchased a couple of items from Beauty Bakerie. One is their new Neapolitan Eyescream Palette, which I just received and will review soon. Second, is their Hot Cocoa Lip Whip Gift Set below. How cute is the packaging? I love the font. I love the toasted marshmallows. I love the chocolate color. There's even a di-cut card in the shape of a pink mug, filled with cocoa and marshmallows. On the card is the company's logo and website address. This gift set contains SIX (6) of their liquid MATTE lip whips. This set is limited edition, but all the shades can be purchased individually. Now here's the shocker! I didn't like this set. There was only ONE shade I truly loved, and that was the shade GINGER SNAP. The formula for these lip whips are light & airy, which is great! But I found myself adding layer upon layer to EVENLY cover my lips. They looked good WET, but when they dried down they looked a mess (except for Ginger Snap). French Toast & Swiss Mocha Frappe for me, were the worse. French Toast showed every line in my lips (and I use Sara Happ lip scrub & Fresh Advanced Treatment Lip Balm) and my lips looked as if they were painted with old paint. Swiss Mocha Frappe looked ghastly on me. Fortune Cookie & Louvre Palace did nothing for me. They just looked like DRIED PAINT. S'mores D'oeuvres was streaky. I had to constantly go over it, because some parts of my lip were light brown and other had splotches of dark brown. It was inconsistent. The only one I truly loved was Ginger Snap! It dried down like the rest of the shades, but it looked amazing on. So that bewildered me! I think the color shades are wrong for me and I don't care for the formula. The beginning of this year, I reviewed NYX lingerie and I didn't like those either. I feel the same way about these. I'm not a big fan of matte lipsticks, but some can be more drying than others. These never cracked, but they made my lips look really dry. As Beauty Bakerie claims, they do not transfer or budge. FYI: Murad Cleansing Oil did not remove these, but my Garnier Micellar Water removed these with ease. Beauty Bakerie does have some metallic liquid lipsticks that I feel will work MUCH better for me. So I do plan on getting those and reviewing them. So I'm not giving up on this brand. I often get the compliment, "Kim, you look good in ANY lip color" Well this just shows you, NOT ALL...NOT ALL! HaHaHa :D

  1. I'm super sad you not only disliked the shades but the formula as well! Fortune cookie and Swiss Mocha Frappe actually look like they could work great on my fairly pale skin, but since they don't sound like they look very nice otherwise I'll have to pass on trying them out. The sweet theme is really cute that the brand portrays though, so I'll have to check out some of their other products!

  3. Oh ginger snap is beautiful on you - definitely a winner there! It's a shame the formula and the final look isn't the best - I worry that I wouldn't like matte lip treatments for the reasons you didn't like the other colours in this set!

Hopefully next time you try this brand you like the products better, it sounds like a lovely company! :)

  7. Ginger Snap is gorgeous on you! The packaging is definitely adorable and I love the story behind the brand. it's a shame the other shades didn't work out and hopefully the formula improves soon!

  8. Ginger Snap is gorgeous! I must agree the others, not so much. A couple of the shades seem like they would not complement anyone. Hopefully this owner will listen to customer feedback to make the right adjustments to succeed. It is awesome when a young woman overcomes obstacles and builds a great company. :)

  9. What a shame about this set, because the brand sounds like one I would want to support but their product definitely looks... uneven. Some of the colours are just odd and the formula looks like it still needs work. I'm interested to hear what you thought of the eyeshadow!

  10. I didn't know the back story of the brand which is so cool!

I don't love those colors in general (you know I'm more of a pink/red girl) but I've heard such great things about the brand so I'm surprised to hear they weren't that great. I'm curious if the formula gets better in the individual shades.

  11. It is shame that the formula isn't good :( Some of these colours are beautiful but the drying formula would put me off as well, also I am really bad at layering up my lipstick, I always make a big mess :) Let's hope that metallic ones are better than these ones. Also... You look good with any lip colour, Kim :)

  12. Oh man! What a bummer! I found out about Beauty Bakerie on Instagram too. These look so nice in the swatches but streaky lips are not cute. I love Ginger Snaps the most for sure!

  13. The story of this company and the founder are really wonderful Kim. I can see why you were attracted to the brand story and philosophy. The packaging for these Lip Whip is really cute. It's a shame that the formulation didn't work out for you. I'm not a fan of matte lip products because they tend to be too drying but you're right that some are more drying than others. On a positive note, the Ginger Snap colour looks gorgeous on you :)

  14. I can see why you love Ginger Snap, Kim, it's gorgeous on you. About the other shades...I'm not sure who can pull them off as they look like death. They also look like they dry down to almost powdery on your lips, not a good look for sure.

  15. Too bad the formula isn't so good because this is a cute idea. Love the packaging and the product names as well. And the shades are gorgeous too but I will deff have to pass on this little guy.

  16. That's too bad that these didn't work out except for one shade! Ginger Snap does look very pretty on you! The swatches of all these look so nice, so that's disappointing that they don't work well on the lips. I hope they metallic set works out better once you pick it up! The packaging is cute on these though, and I loved the background store to the owner of the company. Thanks for sharing Kim!

  17. I have to agree with you Kim, and it's sad that you didn't really like these shades. They are quite interesting hues too, so I'm not sure if I could even pull any of them off. Pity, because the packaging and marketing for this is adorable and I love the concept as well as the entrepreneur's story behind it. Wishing you a lovely start to the weekend. x/Madison

  18. I looooove the packaging! But it's sad that the shades, the formula, nothing worked for you. But considering the inspirational story of the owner, I would love to purchase some products from the brand, but definitely keeping away from this one!

  20. Ohh why do so many gorgeous-looking matte lip shades have to be SO drying?! Your description looking like dried paint once the formula had dried down is my biggest fear right now with matte lipsticks/whips/glosses (haha). It's a pity these didn't impress, though if you do choose to try the metallic versions I'm really looking forward to hearing your thoughts :)

  21. That's too bad about these, Kim:( But agree with the others...that Ginger Snap looks sooooooo goooood on you! Do let us know how the other products are when you order them. This brand sounds like something that would be great to support, you know?

  22. I think the darkest shade is the one that compliments you the best. On the other hand, it looks like there's something wrong in these lipsticks formula. Maybe they chose colors that are very risky in matte version. Your reviews are always super useful!

  23. I almost bought this set but I went ahead and ordered the eyeshadow palette......from reading what you mentioned, I'm glad I didn't. Thanks for sharing :)

  24. I've also seen the brand on social media but haven't come any reviews before. That sucks that they aren't very good :( Swiss mocha frapp looks like such a cool greige color! You're a lot braver than me, if the first product I tried from a brand sucked, not gonna lie, I would give up on them. Especially if they were an online brand. So thank you for testing things out for us ;)

  27. Hi Kim, me too I'm not a fan of matte lipsticks. Anytime I wear it, I have this urgency to put some gloss over it, but then it defeats the purpose. Lol. I can't wait to hear what you're buying at the Sephora's VIB Sale. I just picked up some hand creams, makeup removers, and eyeliners. Have a great week!
