ULTA Brilliantly Beautiful Color Essentials Collection Review & Swatches

Sponsored: Hey Everybody! I've been enjoying the Thanksgiving holidays, hope you have to.  I wanted to do a quick post/review on this ULTA Brilliantly Beautiful Color Essentials Collection set (that was sent to me), because IT IS GOING ON SALE TONIGHT ($19.99 + 25% Off). I've always been leery about these kind of collections/sets, because they are super cheap ... you get a whole lot of stuff ... and the quality is usually not good. I would never (on my own) buy it for myself. SOOOO!!! What do I think of this one? Did it change my mind? Read my thoughts on it below and please share your experiences.

The ULTA Brilliantly Beautiful Color Essentials Collection is Sweet

This collection includes the following: eye shadow palette (10 shades), cheek palette (3 shades), matte lipstick in Mulberry, butter balm lip gloss in Belle, matte lip crayon in Engagement, dual ended lip liner in Bittersweet/Berry, dual ended eye liner in Blackout/Mink, cosmetic pencil sharpener, blush brush, dual ended eye shadow & crease brush, makeup setting spray, brow tint in medium and a nude matte eye shadow primer.

Eye Shadow Palette

So the first thing I swatched was the eye shadow palette. I put Smashbox primer on the back of my hand and HOLY PIGMENTATION! Do you see the COLOR? The first two shades are very light (but workable), but the other shades give striking color. These shadows are very powdery (I expected them to be), so you'll have to do your eye makeup first and then face makeup. But the color payoff exceeded my expectations.

Blush Highlighter Palette

Absolutely gorgeous. They give you a nude & pink blush. They also give you a light gold shimmer shade (highlighter). I think these colors would compliment anyone.

Lipstick, Liner & Gloss

If you love wines, berries & browns, then you will love these shades. They give you the lipsticks and liners to MATCH. I didn't care for the gloss, but I may be able to use it as a lip topper.

Brushes & Dual Ended Eyeliner

They give you a blush brush & dual-ended eye shadow brush. The brushes are soft and work really well with the palettes included in this collection. The eyeliner is dual ended. The pigmentation for both were great. But don't expect the eyeliner to stay on your eyes if you cry! LOL They're good, but not waterproof.

Makeup Setting Spray, Brow Tint and Eye Shadow Primer

So far. So good. Ok, here are the duds. LOL The makeup setting spray produces a harsh spray! So your face gets really wet. It dries down, but I don't think it keeps your makeup in place like other setting sprays. Depending on the color of your eyebrows is whether or not this tint will work for you. You can see the color on the back of my hand dried down. The eye shadow primer is a nude color but pretty thick (it also dispenses as such).

So is this collection worth it? To me...YES! The quilted-top, bronze/gold case is REALLY pretty in person. There are two trays that you can put jewelry and other sentimental things in. LOVE the eye shadow palette, blushes & lipstick colors. The only things hit or miss are the eye liners, setting spray, brow tint & primer. This is currently $19.99 and with an additional 25% off (STARTS TONIGHT NOVEMBER 27 AT 9PM CST ONLINE ONLY), it's definitely a great deal. PLUS inside the case you get a coupon for $5 your next ULTA BEAUTY COLLECTION PRODUCT order. Just wanted to share my thoughts! I was pleasantly surprised. I will be around to all of your blogs starting tomorrow.

  1. Whoa! The pigmentation on those eyeshadows are insane! Too bad about the makeup setting spray and shadow primer, but everything else sounds like a winner. Thanks for the review, Kim! And hope you're having a great Thanksgiving weekend:)

  2. I had a laugh when I first saw this, Kim, because the only time I've ever bought one of these sets was for my best friend in grade eight. She loved it but even then, I was very skeptical about the quality. I have to admit, though, the price of this one is pretty remarkable, and considering that most of the products sound like they are of reasonable quality, it's almost a steal! Because I'm very particular about my make-up shades, I wouldn't go for it, but I know my teenaged cousins would love it.

  3. With that sale price it's worth giving it a go - especially as you liked quite a few of the items in it, even if not all of them were winners.

I think the US has the best black Friday sales, we really don't get big discounts often here in Australia.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend and you got some great stuff in the sales! :)

  4. Glad to hear you've been enjoying Thanksgiving holidays Kim! $19.99 is a really good deal for this set and it's not surprising that with so many items some are going to be better than others. The jewel toned shades in the eyeshadow palette look fantastic!

  5. I'm so glad to know this is a nice set! I've seen this one and another at Ulta and was curious because of all the stuff you get! I'm also skeptical of sets because I expect them to not be good quality like it said, but now I have higher hopes for them! those shadows shadows look beautiful, and so does the cheek palette!

  6. We don't have an Ulta in my country. I like the swatches of the eyeshadow palette. They look beautiful on your hand. Especially that green shade.

  7. How many beauty treats!! I love especially the dark metallic shadows and the highlighters which are not too bright. Baci, Valeria - Coco et La vie en rose FASHION & BEAUTY
