Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask Review

Fresh's Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask is a multi-functional (purifying mask, deep cleanser, reduces the appearances of pores, mattifies the skin, softer & smoother skin) treatment for NORMAL to OILY SKIN! It is REALLY GOOD, but let me break this review down by skin types.

IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN: I have both dry & sensitive skin! Even though Fresh states this is only for normal to oily skin types, I purchased it because I had SO MUCH success with REN's Clearcalm 3 Clarifying Clay Cleanser when used in conjunction with REN's Gentle Cleansing Milk Cleanser. CLAY has kept my skin breakouts in check and keeps my skin calm. I love it! So I still wanted to give the Fresh Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask a try despite the warning. I've used this three times! It looks like a mud. It's very cool to the skin when applied. It's refreshing. Fresh says to leave this on for 3-5 minutes. You will want to leave it on longer! DO NOT!!! 3-5 minutes is enough! Within that time frame, it dries down and tightens but doesn't crack. Wash it off with warm water & a face cloth. NOW! Every time I tried this, my face felt super clean! My pores looked & felt clean! My skin was super soft! I NEVER TURNED REMOTELY RED! BUT YOUR SKIN WILL FEEL DRY AFTERWARDS. YOU WILL NEED A MOISTURIZER. This mask sucks all the oil from your skin. I NEVER EXPERIENCED DRY PATCHES, but I knew if I used this often I would. I can only see DRY SKIN TYPES using this once a month or twice a month WITH A MOISTURIZER. To use it more will just deplete your skin. This jar is good for 12 months, so it would probably last you all year. You could use this for spot treatment of acne. But to use every week, I just don't see it. I have tried another clay detox mask from REN, that I like and it is more suitable for DRY SKIN. Stop by A Very Sweet Blog tomorrow and I'll tell you about it.

IF YOU HAVE NORMAL, COMBINATION or OILY SKIN: This purifying mask is for YOU! The oilier your skin, the better this mask will work. I asked my mom to test this mask. She has NORMAL SKIN. She loved it! As I explained above, the mask looks like a mud. When you apply it, apply it in sections. To your cheeks. To your chin. To your forehead. It goes on cool. It's very refreshing. Fresh recommends that you keep the mask on for 3-5 minutes. You will be tempted to leave it on longer (with how good it feels), BUT DON'T DO IT! 5 minutes is enough! The clay smooths & tightens on your face, but during the recommended time never cracks. If you leave it on longer, it will. Use water & a face cloth to wash it off. I prefer warm water. Your face should feel clean, smooth & fresh! My mom (who has normal skin) did require a moisturizer afterwards (it depleted any oil on her face) but she didn't experience any dry patches, irritation or redness. She mentioned to me, the more oil you have on your face the better (so that is why this would work for combination/oily types the best). Two things kept me from giving it a Supersweet rating, IT DOESN"T EFFECTIVELY REMOVE BLACKHEADS. Most detox masks are supposed to, but this one didn't. And Fresh, states this mask can be used daily... ummm.... I wouldn't recommend that unless you're truly dripping oil! LOL It depletes oil and everyone needs some oil on their skin. To use it daily would go overboard.

This mask comes in a jar. It's also now available in a tube. It really makes your skin feel CLEAN. But you have to be aware of your skin type and how it affects your skin. This will tell you how often you can use it. Again, for my DRY/SENSITIVE skin types, I'll have a review of REN's Detox Clay Cleanser for you tomorrow. Detox masks are very popular right now! Have you tried this one or any others? Let me know in the comments.

  2. Have you tried the Omorovicza Deep Cleansing Maks? Another clay mask and not drying at all. Yes, it is expensive, but for me it is really worth the splurge.

  3. This does sound like a great product. I never seem to have the patience for masks though. :)

  4. I love face masks, but I've had mixed results with clay based ones, particularly when it comes to washing them off - so many ruined (or nearly ruined!) clothes and sponges. But this one sounds great, and since I have combination skin, it would probably work well for me.

  6. I have not done a clay masque in a while, I feel it dries my face which use to be oily and now its an odd mix.
I am lazy for masques and always end up getting it on a towel or on the wall or on whatever I am wearing.
AND it seems like I can never wait for it to work and just take it off before the time is due.
SO, I am currently using Biotherm AQUA SOURCE non-stop, I dab it on before going to bed on a cleansed face and don't remove it - I have to say that my face feels so hydrated the next morning ! I do it every other night.

  7. Kim, since trying an Innisfree clay mask, I'm hooked. Will definitely keep this Fresh one in mind when it's time for me to get a new one. I have super oily Tzone and dry skin for the rest of my face, so this sounds just right for me:D
Hope you're having a lovely day so far, my dear. XOXO

  10. Kim, you and I have very similar skin types and I noticed that with most clay masks that as long as I rinse them off as soon as the it says to, my skin tends to be okay with them. This mask sounds like it would great for my husband who has oily skin.

  11. This sounds fab for oily skin types. I also incorporate a clay mask into my mask routine at least once a week to purify my skin. Great review Kim!

  12. I had a sample of this, but I didn't love it. My face did feel really dry afterwards, and I probably left it on too long, but I could definitely tell it was time to take it off after a few minutes! I've had other clay masks that I like better than this one!

  17. This sounds like the type of mask I would use in the heat of summer to keep my skin from getting way to oily. Even then, I definitely would not use a clay mask every day. I'll have to check this one out. Thanks for the review!

  18. My skin is usually dry and sensitive, but over the last few weeks it's acting weird, breaking out and being oily. I don't think it's due to a product I'm using because it affects my scalp too. I'm at a loss honestly. I think clay is an excellent natural ingredient. As you say, it mustn't be used too often on dry skin but it shouldn't be avoided altogether. Now I'm eager to read your next review! Loves and loves, Valeria
