Yesterday, I reviewed Fresh's Umbrian Clay Purifying Mask. It's great for normal to oily skin types, but over time I felt it would be a bit too much for dry skin types (like me). I really like REN Skincare. I really like clay. So a couple of months ago I saw that REN had a clay Invisible Pores Detox Mask (for Combination to Oily Skin Types). Even though this says it's for Combination to Oily skin types, this works great on my Dry Skin. To use it everyday? NO. But I can use this safely, once a week for a deep clean (that's more than I could with the Fresh clay). This is "a purifying clay mask that draws out impurities, visibly reduces and refines pores, combats the appearance of oiliness and breakouts". Purify & Detox!!! Yes, please! I love that clean feeling! I mentioned yesterday, that since using REN's Clay Clarifying Cleanser along with REN's Gentle Cleansing Milk, my breakouts and skin flair ups have really calmed down. It's due to clay! But clay can be drying! I've decided to replace the REN Clay Clarifying Cleanser (which I was using daily) with REN's Invisible Pores Detox Mask (once a week). I feel I only need clay once a week & not daily! I love REN products because they understand sensitive skin. They undergo rigorous British environmental/organic standards (NO parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, petrolatum, synthetic fragrance/colors, T.E.A., D.E.A, glycols, silicones). Nearly all of their products are Vegan. It's truly CLEAN Skincare! I love the packaging! The clay is housed in a bag INSIDE a pump! That is to keep the clay supple & germ free! All of their products are packaged this way! You start with CLEAN SKIN, before applying this mask. You pump out enough product to cover your entire face. Apply in sections. Let dry! This mask tightened but didn't harden or crack. It felt cool on the skin. I rinsed with warm water & a face cloth. My skin felt clean and supple. It didn't feel as stripped as with the Fresh. I wouldn't use this everyday, but definitely once a week! You're not running for your moisturizer afterwards! My pores looked clean. Did they look smaller? No, but they didn't look smaller with the Fresh mask either. This did a better job with blackheads. I never experienced any redness or dry patches with this mask. So if you have fickle skin like me and can't use charcoal or harsh masks, definitely give this a try. It's gentle, calming & soothing. If you have normal, combination or oily skin and want a mask that is not so powerful, I think you will like this as well. Attached to the pump/nozzle is a "mini-cap" to cover the pump opening. This is to prevent the pump from being blocked. It worked for me. Overall, I was very impressed with this mask and will incorporate it into my skincare regime until something else comes along.

I still haven't tried REN but all of your reviews have me convinced that they really know what they're doing when it comes to skincare, Kim! Although I have combination skin, I would still be wary of using clay on a daily basis, since it can be so drying, but a gentle once a week mask would be wonderful.

REN is a brand I really enjoy a lot as well, but I haven't tried this mask yet. My skin is not sensitive and combination, so I don't have to be as careful as you do.

It sounds like a really good mask! I have a clay mask but like you said I can't use it more than once a week as it's so drying, this seems like a gentler alternative.
ReplyDeleteHope you have a good weekend ahead of you :)

I've always wanted to try REN skincare products, sadly we don't have them. These looks great to try out

I've only ever tried a couple of REN products, though was pretty impressed and ended up using one on a daily basis. Thanks so much for the tip on mask-applicators now being a 'thing', I'll definitely be on the lookout for one here in the UK now :)

Kim, I have yet to try Ren but I have added the brand to my to-try list since your reviews.:D I love the sound of this purifying mask. Anything that detoxes is awesome in my book:) And I can only use clay masks once a week as well...I think more than that would be overkill!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! It's nasty weather-wise over here again...sigh....
I still haven't tried ren out but I really want to! This sounds amazing so it might be the first product!

Great review Kim!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad this one removed black heads better than the Fresh mud mask!
ReplyDeleteThis mask sounds like it has been working very well for you Kim! Even dry skin types need a deep cleansing mask and this one sounds like it gets the job done without any dryness or irritation. I'm using an organic lay based mask right now that i really like but I definitely want to try this one when I'm finished with it.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a great mask, beauty! I've never tried any of REN's products, but I know you love the brand, so I'll have to keep an eye out. I've tried clay masks in the past and I felt like they didn't work for me in treating my acne. But I also don't think I was being consistent with it either, which I'm sure has a lot, if not everything, to do with it. I love that this one is kept in a bag inside of the dispenser, I've never heard of that before, they really seem to consider all possibilities when it comes to contamination, which of course would effect the product's performance. Thanks for sharing, beautiful, and I hope you have the best weekend ahead!

This sounds nice Kim! I'm glad you liked this one and it worked well for you. I bet my skin would like this one too, I need to check our Ren!
ReplyDeletePhew! You just save me from adding a face mask into my list to try so no thanks to the one from Fresh but I will give this REN one a try. I'm already a fan of REN so I am positive that I will love this too. Thank you for the review, Kim!
ReplyDeleteI love Ren products so honestly I am so game for trying this mask! Great post xxx

Honestly, I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as masque applicators/brushes, so thanks for letting me know. Plus, I think that it is a great idea for brands to include them with their masque packaging...perhaps at least with some of them. Let's hope that brands will listen to you. :)
ReplyDeleteThese seem rather nice. Glad to hear you had a good experience with these masques and that they worked well for you.
Have a great weekend!
I haven't tried anything from REN but I need to try this mask. I am obsessed with deep cleaning/detox masks lately and this would be perfect for my combination/oily skin!! xx

I love that this mask is paraben and mineral oil free. Clay masks are the best to deep cleanse pores.

ReplyDeleteI haven't tried much skincare from REN. Most of what I've tried were all deluxe samples; some hits and some misses but this mask sounds really lovely. Thanks for the review! x

I used some REN products a few years ago and really loved them. The only thing that kept me from repurchasing was the price, but I want to go back to using the brand. This also sounds like an effective mask. The packaging of this is so much nicer than the usual big jar of mud. lol I'm so glad you mentioned the mask applicator because I could really use that!
ReplyDeleteI did not know REN existed, but it sounds like it gets the job done.
ReplyDeleteOh and I use my foundation brush for putting on face masks... to spread product evenly and without it getting under my nails.
This mask sounds like the perfect fit for my skin type! Like Lorena says in the comment above, I use a foundation brush to apply my masks. Much love dear! Valeria
