Perricone MD Cocoa Moisture Mask Review

The last time I tried a chocolate mask was in 2014! Unfortunately it was too strong for my skin type (dry/sensitive skin) and I couldn't use it anymore. So when I saw that Perricone MD came out with a Cocoa Moisture Mask $69 (2017), I was ecstatic. A CHOCOLATE mask that infuses MOISTURE into the skin? Yes, please! I love chocolate infused skincare & body products! Now, I don't know about you guys, but for some reason, I've always been skeptical about "DOCTOR" products. I don't know why. They are doctors, but I always equate their products to those infomercials I see on television (just out to make a quick buck). HaHaHa It's horrible to say, but those are my thoughts. Well anyway, I went ahead and purchased this mask from ULTA. It comes in a sophisticated black matte & frosted jar. It also has a scooper to remove the product. The mask when applied has a super luscious chocolate scent. It's very authentic. The mask is cool & creamy when you apply it to your face. There are little capsules (cocoa enriched micro-capsules) in this mask that turn brown as you rub the mask into your skin. Let the mask sit for 5-10 minutes. The mask goes from a light beige color (when you initially apply it) to a light brown-grey color as it dries. I experienced no tingling and nothing bad while it was on (this is great for all skin types). You wash it off with warm water. As I washed off the mask, my skin felt REALLY MOISTURIZED! When I towel dried my face, my skin felt LIGHTLY MOISTURIZED. So that deep moisture you get initially, dissipates at the end. You're left with soft, but only lightly moisturized skin in the end. You will still need a moisturizer. This mask gives you a wonderful Willy Wonka chocolate experience (in the beginning), but for $69 I expect the level of moisture to stay until the end! Have you tried any Perricone MD products? I'll be reviewing more "doctor" skincare products this week.

  1. I'm not a fan of chocolate products other than actual chocolate. Even frosting on donuts I don't find appealing. Weird. I don't think I could do this mask because of the scent. If you're looking for another mask to try out I just tried Charlotte Tilbury's pink clay goddess mask and am seriously in love with the results. 15 minutes with this on and I swear I had really radiant skin afterwards. Truthfully I got a sample from an order I placed last week but I am so sold now! Ahhh so good. (I wanted to share this info with someone hahaha but no one would listen to me today but I just know you're going to appreciate this!)

  3. I have never tried any Perricone or chocolate skin care products ;-) For that high price tag I would want that mask to do miracles on my skin. Such a pity that it didn't deliver.

  5. I am the complete opposite, doctors brands or cosmeceuticals are what always attracts me. Maybe because I am a doctor myself and do have a certain level of trust for my kind.
Perricone MD is a brand I have not yet tried, but I just tested a Germany doctors brand very thoroughly (Doctor Duve) and they do have some gems.
But I agree, at a price point like this the results should be 100% convincing.

  6. For that price, it would've been nice to have a longer lasting moisturizing effect, Kim! Thanks for the review as always. I've always wanted to try Perricone products though coz I always see it here on our shopping channel. Really want to get my hands on the No Foundation foundation.
Anyhoo, have a great week ahead:)

  7. There are a few food scents that I'm not a fan of when it comes to body products: chocolate is one of them, and pineapple is another, even though I love eating both! I do love the packaging of this mask, though, so I will look into other products from this line.

  8. It's a shame this mask wasn't quite worth the price. I have a few Perricone products but I'm not sure I'd like the chocolate scent of this.

  9. A CHOCOLATE mask that infuses MOISTURE sounds so promising! It's too bad this mask didn't quite live up to those claims especially at that price. I'd expect more as well Kim. I totally want to smell this based on your description cause it does sound like they nailed the scent.

  10. Ooo! I was hoping the result would have been amaze-ball and last forever instead of temporary! :-(

  11. The last chocolate scented product I used was a Body Shop scrub that I purchased years ago and literally, it was chocolate in a pot, good enough to eat! So sad this is not working the way you wanted it and it's quite expensive.

  13. Thanks for reviewing this! $69.00 is crazy expensive for a mask. Especially if it doesn't work wonders. I would love to try a sample for the mere fact that its chocolate scented!

  14. For something so expensive you'd really expect it to have more moisturising properties haha, I love the idea of it smelling like chocolate though :)

  16. You are definitely not alone, girl, I feel the same way about doctor developed products myself. I have to be honest and say it's because I've tried some of those products that have been raved about on tv that were developed by doctors that actually ruined my skin at the time and have spoken to others that's happened to as well. So, in theory, I guess I've written all doctor products off, which I know isn't fair :( That said, this product sounded promising. I love the packaging and the fact that you can actually smell the chocolate ingredients. However, it's a bummer that the moisture doesn't last. Again, I'd expect more from a product that's not only that much money, but developed by a doctor that knows or should at least know the importance of retaining moisture in the skin. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you're having a great start to your week so far!

  17. I'm not really a fan of chocolate in general, so I feel like this wouldn't work well for me. It looks great though and I like that it comes with a scooper!

  18. This totally had my interest until I saw the price tag lol!! I agree that for how much it is, you should be getting more hydration like it claims! The chocolate sounds amazing though!

  19. I have never tried a chocolate mask, I imagine it should smell very nice, too bad you did not get the results you expected, thanks for the review.

  20. Oh chocolate sounds good but
If you need moisturiser afterwards, the bittersweet rating is deserved. Specially at that price point.

  21. Mmm, why wouldn't the hydration last? I agree with you on bittersweet. I've tried the non bronzer bronzer and serum foundation and like them a lot.
