Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer Review and Swatches

The last concealer in my makeup stash to review, is Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Treatment Concealer. MANY people have gotten GREAT RESULTS using this concealer! Many have also said, this was a great dupe for Tarte's Shape Tape Concealer. I had to give it a try! Well, unfortunately my results didn't turn out the same. WHY ME? On Maybelline's website, this concealer is offered in six (6) shades. I always go with medium (130). The packaging is ok (on Maybelline's website I read a number of reviews complaining about faulty packaging, with the twist top; I didn't have a problem with mine, but I can see where this could be a problem)! The packaging is sleek. You twist the top (the clicking becomes a bit annoying), so product can be released. The sponge applicator is soft and applies the concealer well. The concealer is creamy and feels great to the skin. The first problem I noticed, was coverage. This did not do a good job concealing under my eyes, chin or cheeks. Medium seemed really COOL toned on me, which made me look DEAD/ASHY. I had a flashback to when I tried a Rimmel Foundation in 2015 (my older readers may remember that one). Michael Jackson Zombie Thriller much! LOL I also noticed a lot of reviews on their website mentioning that it is not dark skin friendly. From my experience, I have to agree. I plan on trying more concealers, but right now my faves are Tarte Shape Tape & Too Faced Born This Way Concealer. I really need good coverage and both offer some hydration to the skin. I've heard good things about Maybelline's FIT ME line. Maybe that would be a better match? Anyone try? Does anyone know if it's compatible with dry skin?

  1. I had similar experiences regardin the coverage. Not enough to satisfy my needs. The Fit ME concealer is a grat one, but again one with medium coverage. I like the texture and blendability a lot though, and I think it would work great with dry skin.

  2. I've read amazing reviews on this one and everyone swears by it, however I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how it performs on me. But everyone seem to like it, too bad it wasn't suitable for your skin.

  3. Ah the coverage doesn't sound the best then, I need something with excellent coverage for my under eye area as I get really bad circles!

  4. I have seen people really liking it, so I was hoping more. I haven't tried it myself and now I'm glad I have skipped it :)

  5. I'm glad to read a more honest review on the concealer - I have dry skin too so I'd rather give it a skip . The Catrice concealers are FULL coverage and pretty affordable - perhaps try one of them ?

  6. I am so surprised you gave this a bittersweet rating. Many people rave about this concealer and say it's a holy grail. This one is not available in my country so I never tried it.

  7. Oh gosh Kim - I always think you look gorgeous, even in reviews of products that you don't love, and I have to say, this is the first time that I can really see a product has not done what it was supposed to do. The results of this concealer are so disappointing! Thanks for your honest review, I'll be avoiding Maybelline's Instant Age Rewind now :)

  8. This is definitely one of the most hyped about concealers! I wish we had them in SA!

  9. Too bad it did not deliver !
I have to admit I hate that click sound and it makes me impatient when I click, click, click and product takes forever to finally get to the applicator. Then the applicator is saturated with product --

  10. That stinks. It is particularly frustrating when packaging doesn't work properly.

  11. I use to use this concealer years ago when I first got into makeup when I didn't know much about makeup yet. I don't think the coverage is good either. I get confused when everyone raves about how good it is lol!! I'm not the biggest fan of the fit me concealer either. It's just okay to me. I did like maybellines better skin concealer though, but I don't think it's a full coverage as the Tarte shape tape!

  12. I used to use this concealer for my dark circles a few years ago. It worked ok as long as I color corrected first. It covers no where near as well as Shape Tape though. The Maybelline Fit Me is a bit more coverage than this.

  13. I got a sample of his concealer in a gift bag and I had the same issues when I tried it as you did Kim! The lack of coverage didn't even bother me that much but the coolness of the color did since it did nothing for the yellow undertone of my skin. It wasn't ashy but it would be stand out on my face even with blending. And I also hated that sponge tip cause it's like asking for germs ;p

  14. I like this concealer to use under my blush but not for my under eye area. I do love the Fit me concealer though and I have dry skin as well. But the Fit me seems to just be a medium coverage and not full on coverage at all. I need to get the Tarte one and give it a try finally!

  15. Sucha shame the shade isn't right on you Kim, it's definitely not a winner despite the other great reviews! You look much nicer in the 'before' pic :)

Hope you are having a wonderful week so far!
