Rimmel London Conceal & Correct Palette - Bittersweet
Color-correcting can be both useful & fun. Color-correcting takes away redness, darkness and dullness. I embraced color correcting a couple of years ago with the Smashbox Lighting Theory Palette. The Rimmel London Conceal & Correct Palette is also a CREAM formula! But this formula applies as a CREAM, then turns into a POWDER (on the face). That's where everything went awry. It made my skin powdery, dull and ashy (I have dry skin). I tried using less product, but then I lost coverage (redness, dullness, darkness). This was just ok to me. I will say, these do a little better when placed atop makeup! I find you use less (of course, because your foundation is applied). Do you color correct?
Rimmel London Conceal & Contour Palette - Bittersweet
Conceal. Contour. Highlight. These are in cream formula and when applied they stay as a cream. This is good! The only thing is when you apply & blend these out, they have a tendency to disappear (maybe it's my skin tone). The concealer & contour did a pretty good job, but the highlight doesn't do much. It's more of a soft glow on the face (strobing) than a highlight. Again, this was just ok in my book.
Final Thoughts. Both palettes are compact (fit into the palm of your hands) & are multi-functional. If you can get them to work with your skin type, they are winners. The problem I have with Rimmel London products, is that everything I've tried makes my skin dull & ashy. I don't know if it's because of my dry skin, age or color. Remember the problem I had with their foundation? LOL Just because these didn't work for me, they may work for someone else. I can only share my personal experience.
I've heard good things about Rimmel lip products - it's too bad that the color correcting and conceal palettes didn't work out too well!

It's such a shame the colour corrector palette turned to a powder, I don't think that would work well for me at all.

Too bad the colour correcting palette didn't work for you Kim, so sad when you want a product to perform and it doesn't. I don't use a correcting palette, I find it too complicated :)

A bit weird that the cream colour correcting palette turned into a powdery finish? I can only imagine that must have been a struggle to work with. I haven't tried a lot of their face products, though I do love their bronzers and lipsticks, especially those in collaboration with kate moss, I can't stop obsessing over them x

ReplyDeleteThe 'during' pic of the colour corrector kit made me smile though - very colourful, and you can't tell as you blended it in well (or it looks like it in the photo, I know you weren't happy with the end result)

Rimmel was one of my favourite brands as a teenager, but by the time I hit my early 20s, I found the quality of their products, aside from the lipgloss, had really declined and I moved away from using them. I've still had a few glosses from their collections over the years that I've loved, but after so many disappointments, I've never felt inspired to try anything else. I don't colour correct but I've always found the idea of it interesting - such a shame this formula turns to powder as if it stayed a cream, it could be great.

I don't color correct (or contour) on a daily basis, so neither of the products do interest me. And despite having combination skij I prefer cream products for both, so the color correcting one puts me off for that reason alone.

That's too bad these didn't work for you Kim! I haven't tried many cream products, they scare me lol!! I think it's strange the color correctors turn to powder though, I would think they would stay a cream!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim! That is a bummer because I have liked many Rimmel products in the past, especially their primer which is like $7 and holds up as well as Smashbox. I'm so glad I read this as I'm always looking for a powerful concealer/correcter drug store brand. Thank you for the review and showing all the shades and each pallete on your skin too. ReplyDeleteI've had a good experience with Rimmel mascaras and eyeliner but I've never tried any of their face products. I definitely wouldn't want anything that would make my skin appear dull & ashy so I can feel where you're coming from Kim. Thanks for your honest assessment.

That is too bad on these. I keep blue mineral powder on hand to conceal red blemishes. Whoever came up with the concept of color correction in makeup was brilliant!
ReplyDeleteI am yet to still try colour correcting. I have the products lying around in my room I just have not brought myself to do it yet, Lol. I have not seen these palettes in stores near me yet. Rimmel is quite big in SA. Thanks for the review. I won't be purchasing them.
ReplyDeleteI swatched both of the trios in store at work and I don't like the texture at all. The products also sit weirdly on my skin and good to know that I am not the only one disappointed with these.

The Colour & Correct palette sounds interesting, thanks for the tip to layer it atop makeup, rather than under! I've never actually tried using any of these types of products - though I think I'll wait for one to score 'Sweet' on your blog before trying! ;)
