The Hottest Styles for the Party Season

For most of us, the party season is just around the corner, which, of course, means it is time to treat yourself to a new outfit or two. So, what can you expect to find in the shops? Which looks will be hot, which will fizzle out before you get a chance to wear them to the office Christmas party?

Well let´s take a look, at the type of cocktail dresses, party shoes and accessories you can expect to see in the shops over the coming few months.

The little black dress stays on trend

As you would expect the little black dress is set to continue to be a popular option. After all, it has been the go to outfit for women everywhere since the 1920s when Jean Patou and Coco Chanel first introduced them as partywear.

So, it comes as no surprise to see fashion houses like Chanel, Dior and Valentino continuing to include them in their collections. Naturally, where these designers lead the High Street designers follow. Therefore, there will not be a retailer out there that does not offer some sort of LBD.

This year, you can expect to see closely tailored dresses replacing the more free-flowing styles of last year. Expect to see full length, straight cut, black dresses being paired with bold, sparkly accessories, shoes and, sometimes, boots.

The shimmery dress trend

You will also see lots of gold dresses on the racks. This harks back to this year´s Academy Awards ceremony. The likes of Jessica Biel, Dakota Johnson and Emma Stone all wore gold gowns at this year’s Oscars. It took a while, but the fact the party season is upon us means that shiny gold or silver dresses are set to finally go mainstream.

They will be mostly made from lightweight, free-flowing fabrics and be far edgier than the gowns we saw the celebrities wearing earlier in the year. Using these fabrics has helped to bring the price point down to a level, which means most consumers will be able to afford one for nights out and parties.

If you do decide to tap into this trend, it is a good idea to read this care guide first. Metallic fabrics are quite delicate, so it is important to know how to look after them properly.

Shiny shoes too

Naturally, that means you can expect to see a lot of shiny gold and silver shoes in the shops too. They really are the only style of footwear that looks right with a dress made entirely from a shiny fabric. Fortunately, they work well with other styles of clothing. For example, paired with jeans or black trousers, which means you should be able to get quite a bit of use out of them.

Plum and grey

This year, there are some great colour combinations emerging. Gone is the almost monochrome colour palette of last year. For the 2017 party season, you can expect to see lots of party guests combining rich purple or maroon with grey. This is a beautiful combination which adds a touch of sophistication to any party outfit.

Sapphires and emeralds

You can also expect to see shades of green making their way into party wear collections. Rich emerald green dresses will be joined on the racks by vibrant sapphire blue versions.

  7. Oh wow. I have to say I am lucky to have amassed quite a collection of black dresses so I am going to stick to those. Although now that I read your post I remembered that I also have a gold dress that I have only worn once.... hopefully I will not be buying any dresses any time soon. Or so I say ;)
