The Skeleton House: Halloween 2017

New Orleans has appropriately nicknamed this mansion The Skeleton House (its located on the corner of St. Charles Avenue and State Street)! If you visit New Orleans during the month of October, you should definitely stop by and have some fun. Every Halloween, a number of new satirical skeletons pop-up on its lawn. I always look forward to seeing the themes that arise each year. Since I've covered this for several years now, I was interested in knowing the story behind this home. I did a little research and a woman by the name of Louellen Berger (she's a baby boomer) started this display. This fun Halloween project of hers started when her parents began to age, but she's always loved Halloween. She wanted to bring the festivities to them. Isn't that awesome? She's a college graduate, that retired from fashion & marketing and is married to real estate developer Darryl Berger (he graduated from Isidore Newman, Vanderbilt University and Tulane University Law School). They purchased this home in 1978. She often consults with her adult children on ideas. (source) I took pictures of the new themes, but if you would like to see ones from past years, please click here & here.

  1. wow, this is so cute! I can't believe this is all just one house, and WOW that house is huge. I especially like the skeleton doing the bridge, haha. it reminds me of a display we have in my area over the winter. a group of houses from a really rich area (lol) come together and just deck out their houses in christmas lights and decorations. if you google/youtube "jamaica estates christmas lights" you'll see plenty!

  3. Wow Kim this house looks like it would be a must visit during Halloween in NOLA! Not only is the decor amazingly executed, it's obviously very well planned and thought out. The cultural references are so fun and the puns are pretty clever as well. Thanks for sharing :D

  9. Wow, she's incredibly creative! Haha at the names of the different groups and sections she's created. There's a home in The Bronx, NY that has a similar tradition, only for Christmas. They go all out and have life sized figurines of celebrities, Santa, etc all throughout their property; it's become a tourist attraction! It really takes time and dedication to do all of this. Thanks for sharing, beauty, and I hope you have a great week ahead!

  14. It really is amazing how creative people can get when they love a holiday. The Musee You Don't Say made me laugh out loud - I've enjoyed all of your posts about this mansion and its Halloween decor, but that was definitely my favourite part of the display yet!
