Kiehl's Buttermask For Lips Overnight Lip Treatment Review

Kiehl's recently came out with a Buttermask For Lips Overnight Lip Treatment ($24). Kiehl's states, this is "an intensively hydrating lip mask that helps repair the lip moisture barrier to visibly restore lips overnight and nourishes lips with intense hydration for soft, supple lips by morning." I'm all for hydration :) The key ingredients in this lip mask are Fairly Traded Coconut Oil (nourishing oil rich in fatty acids to hydrate and soften lips) and Wild Mango Butter (smooths and repairs dry flaky lips). The packaging for this lip mask, really follows the whole butter theme. The product is housed in a frosted jar. The lip mask is in solid form and yellow-toned (mimicking butter). The lid to the jar completes this color theme. The jar is small. You get .28 oz (8.0g) of product, but honestly a little goes a long way! As Kiehl's states, you take a generous scoop of this mask and apply it to your lips at bedtime. It's solid when you scoop it out, but as soon as you apply it to your lips it feels really creamy. There's no taste to this and it's nearly scentless. To me, it has a slight cocoa butter scent but barely. Your lips feel really moisturized as it sits on the lips. I've tried this mask a number of times. My greatest result was when I first applied it to my lips. It really exfoliated them! Exfoliation is not mentioned in any of Kiehl's description's about the product. I kept wondering, why do they suggest applying this mask at night. Well, this stuff EXFOLIATES your lips! You initially feel that your lips are undergoing intense hydration, but by morning my lips just felt exfoliated & soft. Not a bad thing at all. I just thought by reading the description this intensely hydrated the lips. For lips to be soft by morning, there has to be some hydration. It just wasn't what I thought. If you're looking for super hydration, this will not give it to your lips alone. If you want to remove dead skin from your lips. This is excellent. If you want soft lips. This is excellent. After this mask works its magic, your lips are PREPPED for a moisturizing balm (you'll still need one to add moisture...this lip mask doesn't provide a lot of moisture). Kiehl's has a Butterstick Lip Treatment Balm SPF25 ($19.50), that they suggest. But I've never tried it. Lip masks, seem to be the new thing. The only other lip mask I've tried is Sara Happ's Sweet Clay Lip Mask ($32), which I gave a Supersweet rating. It's pricier, but you only have to let it sit for 20 minutes and then you're done with exfoliation. The Kiehl's takes a little longer. I wouldn't say overnight, but a couple of hours. Also, if you have a significant other, do they want to see dead skin on your lips overnight? LOL So it depends on your situation. Again, I haven't tried the Kiehl's balm but my absolute favorite moisturizing balm to date is Fresh's Advanced Therapy lip balm (here and here). I also suggest their Fresh Sugar Lip Caramel Hydrating Balm (now they come in other yummy scents).
