Not Sponsored: I was unaware there was a museum exclusively for fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent and his works. It's called Musée Yves Saint Laurent, it opened October 3, 2017 and is located at 5 Avenue Marceau, 75116 Paris - France (phone: +33 (0)1 44 31 64 00 ). I don't think any other fashion designer has his own museum. I think it's extraordinary, but Yves Saint Laurent was extraordinary. My last blog post talked about the NEW Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams Exhibit at the Victoria & Albert Museum (February 2 - July 14, 2019). Yves Saint Laurent was the assistant to Christian Dior! Well, there's a NEW Yves Saint Laurent Exhibit (February 12 - December 31, 2019)! There will be 50 haute couture designs in the exhibition. The new display explores two of Yves Saint Laurent’s major creations:
his well-known Mondrian dresses (autumn-winter 1965) and the gowns made
in collaboration with the artist Claude Lalanne (autumn-winter 1969). So if you're in Paris, try to see these collections :) The museum seems to do these exhibitions every year! What a treat! Even if you can't make the exhibit, take a look at the website. If you're a fan of his designs or label, his history will fascinate you. There's an interactive biography section that discusses his life from birth to death. Christian Dior was so impressed with his designs that he made him his assistant. Yves Saint Laurent designed for himself and also the House of Dior. It's a fascinating read. Yves Saint Laurent also designed for the theater, costume balls, and made various costumes. When he first started, he would cut out models in fashion magazines and make paper doll fashion for them. His paper doll fashion collection is absolutely amazing. There are lots of interesting things about his life on this website and you can read it in either French or English. Definitely take a look.
