Smooth Moves: How To Make Moving House A Breeze

If you carried out a survey about the most stressful life events, you would probably find that moving house is one of the most common responses. The truth is that relocating can be stressful and time-consuming, but it doesn’t have to be. If you’re eager to execute a smooth move, here are some tips and tricks to make the process a breeze.

Call in the professionals

The first thing to do when faced with packing all of your possessions and transporting them to a new property is to enlist the help of professionals. Hiring a removals firm makes relocating much easier and it will save you time and effort. Look for a company that offers services that are relevant to your move, for example, a firm that specializes in long distance moving or transporting heavy or valuable goods, and read reviews. Compare prices and quotes and ask for recommendations if you have friends or relatives who have moved recently. You can select services based on your needs and your budget. If you want to save money, for example, you can pack and unpack yourself.

Organize a clear-out

Moving house is the perfect excuse to organize a clear-out. There is no point in taking boxes full of items you don’t want or need with you, as they will clutter up your new home and add to the cost of removal services. Before you start packing, go through each room in your home and sort through your stuff. Set aside piles of things you want to donate to charity, give to friends and family, sell, or throw in the trash. You can then distribute the items you no longer want to keep and start packing all the belongings you want to take with you.

Create a to-do list

We tend to focus on packing when we think about gearing up for a move, but there are other tasks to think about. You will need to contact your doctor, dentist and your bank and credit card and mortgage providers to change your address and switch your utilities over to your new address. It’s also a good idea to redirect your mail and to change your saved address on websites and apps you use frequently. Settle outstanding bills for the property you are leaving and ensure your new home is ready in terms of TV and broadband access and utilities.

Pack methodically

It may be tempting to chuck everything you own in boxes as quickly as possible when getting ready to move house, but it’s worth taking some time to pack methodically. This will save you a huge amount of time and energy when it comes to unpacking on the other side. Group similar items together and label your boxes with details of the contents and the intended room in the new house. You can then take each box to the right place and start unpacking.

The thought of packing endless boxes is enough to make some people feel stressed, but moving doesn’t have to be a negative experience. There are many simple ways you can make the transition smoother and eliminate stress. Call in the pros, create a to-do list, organize a clear-out and pack methodically.
