An Introduction To Florida
Disneyland may be the first thing people think of when they think of Florida, but the area has so much more to offer vacationers. The Southeasternmost state of the USA, Florida is world-famous for its theme parks but it also has hundreds of miles of beautiful beaches, stunning scenery and wildlife, along with great nightlife and rich culture. Everglades National Park
The Everglades National Park is a 1.5 million acre area of wetlands on the Southern tip of Florida. The park was created in 1947 and is the second largest national park in America after Yellowstone. Consisting of subtropical marshes and swampland, the Everglades provides the perfect environment for wildlife like crocodiles, and manatees and is home to endangered species such as the leatherback turtle and Florida panther.
Thanks to its tropical climate, there are two primary seasons in the Everglades: Wet and Dry. December to April is the dry season and the ideal time to plan a visit. The wet season lasts from May through November and brings high temperatures, humidity and heavy rainfall. Depending on the time of year you visit, you can explore the park on foot or by bicycle or boat and view the spectacular wildlife (from a safe distance!)
Kennedy Space Centre
For space enthusiasts, the Kennedy Space Centre is a must-see when visiting Florida. The site of several historic shuttle launches in history, the visitor centre has displays and exhibitions and you can take a tour bus around the 140,000-acre site or try your hand at an astronaut training experience. For a once-in-a-lifetime event, you can even buy tickets to view a real rocket launch!
Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas National Park
Made up of seven small islands, and reachable only by boat or seaplane, Dry Tortuga National Park is a truly unique attraction and a popular destination for vacationers. Garden Key is the second largest island in the Dry Tortugas and home to the historic Fort Jefferson, one of America’s largest 19th-century forts. Today, you can explore the fort and indulge in everything else the island has to offer from snorkelling and swimming around the many coral reefs to fishing and stargazing.
Miami
Miami is another Florida hotspot not to be missed on your travels. With stunning beaches, beautiful Art Deco architecture, and the delicious sights, smells and sounds of Latin culture in Little Havana, Miami has something to offer everyone. You can also visit the outdoor street art museum, Wynwood Walls, explore shipwrecks at the underwater archaeological site at Biscayne National Park or simply dance the night away in Miami’s vibrant nightlife scene.
