One of my favorite Halloween stories is The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow, written by Washington Irving. My favorite character in the book, is The Headless Horseman. I was first introduced to the story as a child, through Disney's 1949 cartoon version The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. If you have Disney+, you should watch it (second half of the video). Another version I like (although a lot more gory), is Tim Burton's 1999 film adaptation of Sleepy Hollow. Through the years, many movies and television shows have been made depicting this popular (shown around Halloween) story.
As many of you know, I LOVE DECORATING FOR HALLOWEEN! Honestly, I enjoy decorating for every holiday. My decor started very sparsely, but has now grown into a bit of an extravagance. I seem to keep adding a few pieces to my ever-growing collection each year. This year was no exception. I went BIG AND BUSTED MY HALLOWEEN BUDGET!
When I received my Grandin Road Halloween Haven catalog in the mail, my eyeballs started to dance. To my delight and amazement, one of the decorations was a headless couple. I immediately fell in love and wanted it for my collection. You'll notice from my previous Halloween pics, I had a rocking chair (family heirloom) in this couple's place. I was simply going to plop a skeleton there ... but THIS headless duo filled in that empty space so much better! Don't you think?
This darling couple blends seamlessly with my previous black & orange color-schemed Halloween purchases. I love their ghostly gauze outfits. He looks so dapper in his deathly, dusty-looking gray pants and knight in shining armor black brocade vest with scarf. Her dress is befitted with vintage lace, feather waist brooch and a black necklace. This couple is pose-able. So I thought this year, I would simply put his arm around hers. Happy to be together, as they make me smile.
The other purchase I made this year, were these darling black hand-crafted metal jack-o-lanterns and flameless votive candles. I've been truly enjoying them! They look great at night and give off a very spooky yet alluring illusion.
To compensate for these expensive purchases, I sold my Pottery Barn set of pumpkin and ghost pillows (not pictured). I don't miss them. They never seemed to fit in with what I already had in my collection, so I put them up for sale. A very nice lady contacted me, who wanted them for her son (birthday decorations etc). So I sold them to her. She was most gracious and thankful. It made me feel good, that someone got them that really wanted them (and would enjoy them).
So all in all, everything worked out. The pieces in my collection, truly mean something to me. They bring me joy. I put everything up in September, so I've been enjoying them for several months now. I will include a short video on Instagram for your enjoyment. Happy Halloween Everyone! If you don't celebrate the holiday, I completely understand. God Bless!
