Not Sponsored: Hey Everybody! Meet my mom! She's modeled for me before, when I reviewed the T3 Cura Luxe Hair Dryer (SSense, Rue La La ). They have since updated that hair dryer to the T3 AireLuxe (Bloomingdales, Shopbop, Lord & Taylor, Macys, Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom). She also modeled for me when I reviewed the T3 Singlepass Luxe Straightening & Styling Flat Iron (see updated versions here) and T3 Twirl Trio Curling Iron (Revolve, Nordstrom). I still use all three on her hair today. T3 makes some really great hair styling tools.
To give you some background, my mom gets her hair professionally cut and then I take care of her hair in-between those times. I usually use the hair dryer and flat iron on her hair. On her own, she doesn't feel comfortable using the flat iron. So one day while I was online, I noticed these "heated/hot smoothing straightening brushes". I said WOW, my mom could use one of those on her own (in-between the times I do her hair)! It looks as simple as brushing your hair! Of course there are MANY brands out there that make these, so I started researching them. I wanted something that was easy to use, with ionic technology. After reading and watching some YouTube videos, I narrowed it down to GHD, T3 and Drybar. GHD offered more shine to the hair than Drybar. The heating mechanism for GHD was in the center of the brush, whereas T3's heating mechanism was in the center and sides of the brush. I was worried my mom wouldn't want to use the T3 brush with heat emitting from the sides. So I went with GHD (good hair day) Glide Smoothing Hot Brush (ASOS, Harvey Nichols, Neiman Marcus, Net-A-Porter, Revolve, Saks Fifth Avenue, Selfridges, Urban Outfitters).
Let me start my review of the brush. The brush itself feels really good in the hands. It's lightweight, sturdy and sleek. The bristles are all coated (ceramic) and although firm, do have some bend (not much, but some). The heating plate is located in the center of the brush. So you don't have to worry about the sides getting hot. One button heats this brush up to 365F. It takes less than a minute to heat up. This brush has a 9ft cord, so you can plug it into the wall and still use it on your hair or somebody's hair without plugging it into an extension device. YOUR HAIR MUST BE DRY or YOU MUST HAVE SECOND DAY HAIR before using this styling tool (DO NOT USE ON WET/DAMP HAIR). When first using the brush, glide the brush slowly over a section of hair. It will smooth and straighten the hair. I divided my mom's hair in sections (below). You can see the difference in the left side of her hair (after using the brush) and the right side of her hair. Use it like a normal brush! Brush underneath and atop your hair. Once doing her overall hair, I brushed her ends. Now my mom is due for a cut, so her ends are not as razor-blade sharp as they usually are. Her hair really came out pretty. The brush was not hot on her scalp. There was no snagging or tugging of the brush with her hair. The ionic technology worked, because she had no fly-aways. Her hair really came out nice. I was impressed. I did a first impression video, using it right out the box on my Instagram page. I was more nervous than my mom. HaHaHa Bottom line, she loved the results and so did I. Now, I just have to learn how to curl her hair with it. But she likes it, because it is easy to use (she can use it) and gives her a great straight style. That was my goal.
Oh wow! Kim, your mom's hair looks soooooooo awesome! I love it! Thanks for the heads up on this. And for the warning on not using it on wet/damp hair. That's something I totally would've done...LOLZ
