10 Things To Consider For The Perfect Marquee Wedding

Planning a marquee wedding can be an exciting journey filled with endless possibilities. You have the chance to create a unique atmosphere that reflects your personal style and preferences.

While the idea of a marquee wedding is appealing, there are important factors to keep in mind.

Understanding what you need to consider will help you make informed decisions for your big day.

Selecting the right marquee size for your guest list

When it comes to marquee hire, choosing the right size is one of the most important steps, especially for a wedding. You'll want to factor in your guest list and how you plan to use the space.

For seated events, a good rule of thumb is to allow around 10 to 12 square feet per person. This gives everyone enough room for tables, chairs, and a comfortable dining setup. Planning to add a dance floor, stage, or lounge area? You’ll need extra space for those too.

If you’re going for a more casual, standing-style or cocktail setup, you can get away with 6 to 8 square feet per person. This layout feels more relaxed and fits more guests in the same footprint.

Don’t forget to include space for things like a bar area, food stations, or even a chill-out zone. The more detailed your layout, the easier it’ll be to get the perfect size when arranging your marquee hire.

Ensuring Adequate Weather Protection

When planning a marquee wedding, the weather can be a major factor to consider. Always have a backup plan for wet weather. Consider options like a tent with sides to keep guests dry.

Choose a marquee that is designed to withstand wind. Make sure it is anchored properly to the ground. This will help prevent any issues during gusty conditions.

Think about heating if the temperature drops. Portable heaters can keep the space warm and comfortable. Adding blankets or cushions can make guests feel more at home too.

You may want to provide rain ponchos or umbrellas for guests. This can help them stay dry if a surprise shower occurs. Having these items on hand shows you’re prepared for anything.

Choosing Flexible Furniture Suppliers

When planning a marquee wedding, selecting the right furniture supplier is key. Look for suppliers who offer a wide selection of styles and options. This allows you to create the perfect atmosphere for your event.

Flexibility in rental terms is important. Choose suppliers who can adapt to your needs, whether it’s changing the number of chairs or tables as your guest list changes.

Check if they provide delivery and setup services. This can save you time and reduce stress on your big day.

Consider suppliers who can offer packages, including furnishings, decorations, and accessories. This can make your planning process simpler and more cohesive.

Lighting options: fairy lights and candles

Fairy lights add a magical touch to your marquee wedding. You can hang them in swags from the king poles or drape them around walls. They create a warm, inviting atmosphere that your guests will love.

Candles are another wonderful option. They can be placed on tables or around the marquee to provide soft lighting. Consider using various candle sizes for depth and interest.

Combining fairy lights and candles can enhance the ambience. This mix offers both brightness and a cosy feel. Plus, candles can complement the twinkling of the fairy lights beautifully.

Think about the colour temperature of your lighting. Warm white lights often create a romantic vibe, while cool white can feel more modern. Choose what fits your wedding style best.

Planning for Heating to Avoid Condensation

Heating is essential for your marquee wedding to prevent condensation. Start by planning for a steady flow of heat before the event begins. This helps to warm the space and keeps moisture from building up.

Using heaters early in the day can make a big difference. It is a good idea to blast the heat a few hours in advance. This reduces the chance of condensation forming as guests arrive.

Consider double-skinned walls for your marquee. These structures help maintain a stable temperature inside, which can also help control moisture levels.

During the event, keep the heating on to ensure warmth throughout. This will not only keep your guests comfortable but will also help manage humidity.

Be mindful of damp items or wet clothing inside the marquee. Encourage guests to store any wet belongings outside or in a designated area to reduce moisture.

Arranging for Exterior Lighting for Guest Areas

When planning your marquee wedding, consider how you will light the areas outside the marquee. Good lighting will help guests feel comfortable and safe as they move around.

Start by choosing practical lighting options. Fairy lights can create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Solar lights are another option; they charge during the day and provide light at night.

You might want to use lanterns or candles for a soft glow. These can be placed on tables or along pathways. Ensure they are safe and won't easily tip over.

Think about adding some spotlights to highlight key areas, such as entrances or décor. This can draw attention to beautiful features and help guide guests.

Dimmer switches can give you control over the brightness, allowing for a more relaxed vibe as the evening progresses. It is important to balance mood with functionality.

Test your lighting arrangements before the big day. This will help you make adjustments and ensure everything works well together. Proper lighting will enhance your marquee wedding and make it memorable for your guests.

Decision on catering tent and provider

Choosing the right catering tent is crucial for your marquee wedding. The tent should be spacious enough to accommodate your guests comfortably and allow for catering setup.

Consider the layout of the tent. It should provide a smooth flow for guests moving to and from the dining area. A well-designed space helps create a pleasant dining experience.

When selecting a catering provider, think about their experience with marquee events. Ask for references and check their previous work to ensure they meet your expectations.

Taste testing is essential before making a choice. This helps you confirm that the food quality aligns with your vision. Discuss dietary restrictions with the caterer to make sure all guests are considered.

Determining Best Flooring Solutions

Choosing the right flooring for your marquee wedding is important for comfort and style. The type of flooring can affect how your space looks and feels.

Consider options like grass reinforcement matting if you're having a garden wedding. This choice blends well with the outdoor setting.

Plastic tiles are a practical choice, providing a stable surface that is easy to install. They work well in various weather conditions.

If you prefer something more natural, coconut matting adds a rustic touch. It is good for keeping the area clean and provides traction.

A concrete floor gives a modern vibe and is very durable. It is suitable for larger events and can withstand heavy foot traffic.

Lastly, chipboard can be a cost-effective solution. It offers a flat surface but should be covered with carpet or mats to enhance comfort.

Evaluate your options based on your wedding theme, budget, and venue conditions. Prioritising comfort and style will ensure a pleasant experience for you and your guests.

Consideration of portable loo facilities

When planning a marquee wedding, considering portable loo facilities is crucial. Your guests will need clean and accessible toilets throughout the event.

Choose a location with flat, firm ground for the toilets. This helps ensure they are stable and safe for use.

You should also think about how many toilets you will need. A general rule is one toilet per 30 guests for events lasting up to four hours.

Quality matters too. Look for portable toilets with proper handwashing facilities, including soap and hand towels.

Make sure to include options for guests with disabilities. Accessible toilets are essential for any event.

Plan for regular maintenance during your wedding. Having staff to check on the facilities can keep everything clean and stocked.

Choosing a Romantic Décor Theme

A romantic décor theme can transform your marquee wedding into a beautiful setting. Start by selecting a colour palette that conveys warmth and intimacy. Soft shades like blush, ivory, and pastel tones work well.

Incorporate floral arrangements that evoke romance. Use flowers such as roses, peonies, or hydrangeas. Arranging them in elegant vases can enhance the overall look.

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a romantic atmosphere. Consider fairy lights or candles to add a soft glow. Lanterns or hanging lights can also complement your theme.

Choose table decorations that reflect your style. Look for delicate table runners, vintage centrepieces, or personalised place settings. These details can make your wedding feel more special.

Think about how you can enhance the entryway to the marquee. Wreaths or floral arches can create a captivating first impression. Adding decorative signage can guide your guests, while also fitting the theme.

These elements combine to form a romantic atmosphere that you and your guests will remember. Each detail contributes to an overall feeling of love and celebration.

Location and Venue

Choosing the right location and venue for your marquee wedding is crucial. You need to understand regulations in your area and select a marquee size that fits your plans and guest list.

Understanding Site Regulations

Before you set your heart on a location, check local regulations. Some places have restrictions on noise levels, timings, or even where you can hold a marquee.

You may need to apply for a permit, and there could be fees involved. It's important to contact your local council or governing body for specific information. Additionally, look into any fire safety regulations that may apply.

Don’t forget to consider access points for suppliers. Ensure they can easily reach the site to set up and cater on your big day.

Choosing the Right Size

Selecting the right marquee size is vital. You need enough space for guests, dining, and entertainment. A good rule of thumb is to allow at least 10 square feet per person for a seated dinner.

Here’s a quick reference for marquee sizes:

  • Small (20x30 ft): Up to 50 guests.
  • Medium (30x45 ft): Up to 100 guests.
  • Large (40x60 ft): Up to 150 guests.

Also, consider the layout. Think about where the dance floor, tables, and catering area will go. Having a well-planned space will enhance the atmosphere of your wedding.

Weather Considerations

Weather can greatly impact your marquee wedding. It is essential to prepare for various conditions to ensure your day runs smoothly.

Planning for Different Seasons

When planning your wedding, consider the season and its typical weather conditions. If you choose to marry in summer, prepare for heat and possibly sudden storms.

For spring and autumn, rain is a common concern. Always have a solid plan B, such as a second venue or a waterproof covering.

In winter, ensure your marquee is properly insulated. Using heated elements can help keep guests comfortable.

Tips to keep in mind:

  • Use weighted centerpieces to prevent things from blowing away in the wind.
  • Provide umbrellas or canopies for outdoor areas to keep guests dry.

Preparing for all these scenarios will help make your day enjoyable, no matter the weather.

Sage Advice For Off-The-Beaten-Track Brands

We all know what regular businesses look like: they’re everywhere. But what should you do if your company is a bit off the beaten track?

That’s the topic we address in this post. If you’re doing something a little different from the ordinary, you often need bespoke business advice that speaks to your specific pain points more directly.

Embrace The Weirdness

Our first piece of advice is to embrace your weirdness. You want to put yourself in a position where you’re owning what you are.

Yes, this can be uncomfortable, but it is the sort of thing that customers pick up on. If they think you’re shy or holding back because of what you do, those feelings will transfer to them and they will be less likely to want to use you.

Therefore, lean into your oddball tendencies. Don’t be afraid.

Build A Cult

Photo by Ashutosh Sonwani on Pexels

Next, you’ll want to build a cult. You’re not as interested in having a conventional “customer base.”

While the word “cult” is a pejorative, it makes sense to use it in this context. You want people who are prepared to take a step into the unknown with you and purchase your products and services, even if they are a little strange and out of the ordinary.

You can elevate your brand to cult status by:

  • Secret drops
  • Insider perks
  • Hand-written thank you notes

Partner With Other Weird Companies

You should also look to partner with other weird companies if you’re starting a business that you plan to take off the beaten track. These firms often attract the same sorts of customers, meaning that you can find it easier to gather customers and work with more clients.

These companies should be complementary to your own. For example, you could set up a beverage store serving hot drinks inside a quirky retailer.

Work With Payment Services

You should also work with merchant services for hard to place businesses. You need partners who understand that you’re a little different and won’t be operating like a regular business.

Working with these payment services can be challenging, but once you have the right partner, you can start accepting credit and debit cards, just like any other business. This feature massively expands your business and lets you tap into markets that wouldn’t ordinarily consider buying from you.

Know Your Niche

You also want to know your niche if you’re planning on doing something a little different. You can’t just assume that you understand your customers inside out without the proper time and research going into the process.

As an oddball company, you need to be extra sure that you’re doing what your customers want you to do. After all, you can’t just follow the market leaders’ lead and hope for the best. There probably isn’t a market leader, or if there is, they might be in a completely different market.

Learn Hard And Pivot

Finally, you’ll want to learn hard and pivot quickly. The more you can transition from bad ideas to good ones, the better.

Crown Affair The Leave In Conditioner Review

Disclosure:This post contains affiliate links. I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

Not Sponsored: I have heard so many good things about Crown Affair The Leave In Conditioner (Goop, Sephora, Moda Operandi). It has so many great ratings. So what about the brand? It's woman founded. She believes in clean products and ingredients. Her standards are NO artificial dyes, NO EDTA PEGs or PPGs, NO sulfates, NO parabens, NO PFAs, NO talc, and NO toxic polymers. 1% of every Crown Affair purchase is donated to a non-profit of your choice. The bottom line, CLEAN PERFORMANCE HAIR CARE.

Crown Affair says the leave in conditioner is a weightless hydrating cream that can be used on dry or wet hair. It's cruelty free and vegan. They go on to say...

Nourish strands, reduce frizz, and lock in hydration with The Leave-In Conditioner. Formulated to add moisture to damp hair and revive dry strands without leftover residue, our quick absorbing cream smooths strands and adds meaningful shine.

The Leave-In Conditioner is powered by our signature hydrating ingredient, Tsubaki Meadows™️, a supremely lightweight blend of fatty acids that nourish deeply to help prevent breakage, reduce frizz, and act as a natural heat protectant. This is truly a does everything formula: it adds hydration to damp strands, rehydrates dry, aids in detangling, and encourages healthy hair for the long term. The formula is versatile and buildable and can be used on all hair types.

So, what were my results? This leave in conditioner was very lightweight. A little too airy for my hair needs. It's great to style the hair, but my hair needs more moisture. It just wasn't enough. I had to use a lot to get the same results that I get from using my Bumble and Bumble or Rodan + Fields.  Again, this is an excellent product, but if you need LOTS OF MOISTURE, I don't think this is for you. This is when you need a dab to keep hairs in place and give it a little oomph!

Rodan + Fields Defrizz Oil Treatment Review

Not Sponsored: As you can tell, I've been trying a lot of hair products. I tried Rodan + Fields Defrizz Oil Treatment. You can work it into either damp or dry hair. I did both. It feels like a heavy oil, but once you put it in your hair, the hair absorbs it really well. Your hair won't feel heavy. It will feel hydrated and moisturized. It gives the hair a beautiful shine and the hair feels smooth. My hair even became wavy while using this product. I could brush and comb through my hair with ease. My hair was manageable. I really liked it. I'm trying to compare this to my favorite Bumble and Bumble Invisible Oil. This moisturizes deeper and more thoroughly. But I think I like this more during the Winter and colder months. So, I'll continue testing it through the year. Rodan + Fields pretty much says the same things I'm saying (shine, softness, hydration and heat protection). Anyone with fine hair, may not like this product. It might be too heavy. But if you have coarse hair or thick long hair, it might work for you. To all, it's either a love it or hate it product. I have short coarse hair, so it works for me.

Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Long Last Styling Cream Review

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. I get commission for purchases made through the links in this post.

Not Sponsored: I LOVE LOVE LOVE Bumble and Bumble's Hairdresser's Invisible Oil! I use it on my hair every single day. But I HATE HATE HATE Bumble and Bumble Hairdresser's Invisible Oil Long Last Styling Cream (Selfridge, Nordstrom, Macy's, Kohl's Target), ! I really do. It is so HEAVY. I've tried it when my hair was WET and DRY! It just weighs it down and does nothing for it. It's slick and greasy as well. I wear my hair pulled back and when I go to put it in a ponytail, its so slick that it's hard to grasp my hair. Can you tell I don't like this product? The only hair type I can see who might like this are super curly hair girls/guys. Your hair will love this stuff and make your curls go BOING! But anyone else? Nah. I don't even think I'm using too much.

Bumble and Bumble says this cream gives three days of hydration, frizz reduction and style retention. They say it's a lightweight styling cream. It's a 6 Oil Blend + Nangai Oil. It offers humidity protection. It prevents split ends. It protects from heat tools. It's for all patterns of hair (curly, wavy, straight). It has great reviews on their website. But it's not working for me and I can't recommend it. And NO this is not an April Fool's Joke, I really don't like it. I give it Bittersweet for the curly hair people :)

Changes You Can Make Today To Boost Sleep Quality

A third of US adults don’t get enough sleep, according to data from the CDC. There are all kinds of complications and consequences of sleepless nights. From a lack of energy and mood swings to strained relationships and difficulty focusing, it’s beneficial to tackle sleep issues head-on. In this guide, we’ll outline some simple changes you can make today to boost sleep quality.

Image by Ron Lach on Pexels

Enhance your sleep environment

Enhancing your sleep environment can be pivotal to improving sleep quality and duration. Most of us sleep best when it’s dark and quiet and we feel comfortable and safe. Small changes to your bedroom can have a big impact. Examples include blocking out light, using earplugs if it’s noisy outside, adding soft furnishings for coziness, choosing soft lighting, and avoiding bright colors and clashing patterns. Calming colors for the bedroom include pastels, neutrals and tones of blue, green, and purple.

Try CBD

CBD can help you sleep as it interacts with the endocannabinoid system, which regulates sleep cycles. If you find it hard to relax, you’re prone to stress, you experience anxiety, or you have insomnia, you may benefit from trying CBD gummies or other CBD-based products. It’s important to research thoroughly and seek medical advice before buying CBD products for the first time. This will help to ensure you get the right dosage.

Increase your activity levels

Regular exercise is a brilliant way to improve sleep quality. Being more active will tire your body out, but it can also help you address risk factors for sleep troubles, such as stress, anxiety and dealing with negative emotions. Try to exercise every day, even if it’s just for 10 or 20 minutes. It’s wise to exercise earlier in the day if you enjoy high-intensity, fast-paced activities and opt for calming exercises in the evening. Examples include yoga, Pilates, swimming, and walking. Experts recommend a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

Adjust your evening routine

Having an evening routine isn’t easy if you’re busy, but it can do wonders for your sleep. Just as children can benefit from winding down and going to bed at the same time every day, so can adults. Set a regular bedtime that allows you the recommended 6-8 hours of sleep per night and take time out to paint, draw, write, read, listen to music or curl up on the couch with the dog during the evening. It’s important to feel relaxed when you go to bed. Leave your phone, tablet and laptop out of the bedroom and set a cut-off point for checking messages, making calls and scrolling on social media. It’s also wise to avoid drinking caffeinated drinks and eating large meals late at night.

Most of us are aware of the positive impact of a great night’s sleep, but sleep troubles are common. If you find it hard to sleep, make these changes today: enhance your sleep environment, try CBD products, increase your activity levels, and adjust your evening routine. If you still have sleep troubles, contact your doctor and get advice.

Fresh Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing Dream Serum Review

Disclosure:This post contains affiliate links. I get commission for purchases or clicks made through links in this post.

Not Sponsored: I will admit, I already have a favorite skin resurface serum. It's Sunday Riley Good Genes Lactic Acid. It's expensive, but REALLY GOOD. But I love testing other things that are out there that will resurface the skin (turn over new skin cells). Why is it important to do so? Your skincare will work better. Your makeup will apply better. Your skin will look better.

Fresh Beauty's Lotus Youth Preserve Resurfacing Dream Serum (Harrods, SpaceNK, Selfridges) has been out for awhile now. I've been curious about it. I purchased it and applied it to my skin one evening. I woke up to really soft skin. It did it's job. Fresh states this is a gentle resurfacing and exfoliating serum that's gentle on the skin. It contains AHAs (Glycolic Acid & Citrus Acid for exfoliation), Prickly Pear Flower Extract (resurfacing and skin renewal), Super Lotus (smoothing lines and texture) and Polyglutamic Acid (maintain moisture). Fresh Beauty suggests using this every night. It's the first night, that you will experience all the bells and whistles. After that, not much else. Maybe my skin is in really good shape. So if yours is as well, I don't see you having to use this every night. It's a great maintainer! I feel it's a little too gentle for what I need. I'm sticking with my Sunday Riley because its more powerful. I would use this up to my 30's. I'm in my 50's, so I require more. But it's really good!

How to Extend the Life of Your Fryer Oil Without Losing Food Quality

Fryer oil is a vital part of any kitchen serving crispy, golden-fried foods. Whether you're running a bustling restaurant or a small food business, maintaining oil quality is essential to ensuring consistently great-tasting food while keeping costs under control.

To achieve that, it's crucial to implement best practices that slow down oil degradation and maximize its lifespan. Using a fryer oil filtration system can significantly extend oil life by removing impurities and maintaining optimal frying conditions.

Equally important is to protect your kitchen with grease containment systems to prevent hazards associated with oil disposal. Additionally, understanding the differences between peanut oil vs canola oil can help you choose the best option for frying performance and flavor.

Choose the Right Oil for Frying

The foundation of long-lasting fryer oil starts with selecting the right type. Different oils have varying smoke points and stability levels, affecting their ability to withstand repeated frying cycles. High-oleic oils, such as peanut, canola, and sunflower oil, tend to perform better under high-heat conditions and degrade more slowly than low-quality alternatives.

Refined oils with lower levels of polyunsaturated fats are also more resistant to oxidation, making them a better choice for prolonged use. While cost is a factor, investing in high-quality oil can ultimately save money by reducing the frequency of replacements.

Maintain Proper Frying Temperatures

Overheating oil is one of the fastest ways to break it down and diminish food quality. The ideal frying temperature for most foods ranges between 325°F and 375°F. Exceeding this range can cause oil to burn, producing off-flavors and harmful compounds.

To maintain consistency, use an accurate thermometer or a fryer with a precise temperature control system. Additionally, avoid overloading the fryer with food, as this causes temperature fluctuations that can accelerate oil degradation. Maintaining steady heat ensures better-tasting food and extends oil longevity.

Filter Oil Regularly

Fryer oil accumulates food particles, crumbs, and impurities with each use, leading to faster spoilage. Regular filtration helps remove these contaminants, keeping the oil clean and usable for a longer period. Using a high-quality oil filtration system or a fine mesh skimmer daily can significantly reduce debris buildup.

For optimal results, many restaurants filter their fryer oil multiple times a day, especially in high-volume kitchens. Additionally, rotating and topping off oil instead of replacing it entirely can help maintain consistency while reducing waste, further helping to save fry oil.

Practice Good Oil Storage Habits

Even when not in use, fryer oil is susceptible to degradation due to exposure to air, light, and moisture. Storing oil properly can significantly extend its usability. Keep unused oil in a sealed, dark container away from direct light and heat sources.

When oil is in the fryer, always cover it when not in use to minimize oxidation. Water and steam are also major culprits in oil breakdown, so ensure that fried foods are dry before placing them in the fryer to prevent excess moisture from entering the oil.

Clean Fryers Thoroughly and Consistently

Dirty equipment contributes to faster oil degradation. Carbonized food particles, leftover crumbs, and residue can introduce off-flavors and affect frying performance. Regularly cleaning fryers, including baskets and heating elements, prevents these issues.

A deep clean should be performed at least once a week by draining the oil, scrubbing the fryer with a non-abrasive cleaner, and thoroughly rinsing all components. Keeping equipment in top shape reduces contamination and enhances oil longevity.

Use Anti-Foaming Agents and Oil Conditioners

Foaming oil is a sign of excessive breakdown and the presence of contaminants. Anti-foaming agents help prevent excessive bubbling and oxidation, which can lead to premature spoilage.

Additionally, commercial oil conditioners can slow down the degradation process by neutralizing free fatty acids and maintaining oil clarity. These products help preserve oil quality while ensuring fried foods remain crispy and flavorful.

Monitor Oil Quality and Know When to Replace It

Even with the best maintenance practices, fryer oil will eventually need replacement. Knowing when to discard oil is key to maintaining food quality. Signs of bad oil include:

  • dark coloration
  • excessive smoking
  • a rancid smell
  • a thick, sticky texture

Conducting a visual and sensory check daily ensures that food maintains its optimal taste and texture. While filtration and proper care can extend oil life, continuing to use oil beyond its usable state can negatively impact food quality and customer satisfaction.

Conclusion

Extending the life of your fryer oil while maintaining food quality requires a combination of selecting the right oil, regulating temperatures, filtering regularly, and practicing good storage habits. Proper fryer maintenance and the use of oil stabilizers can further enhance longevity and reduce costs.

Putting these expert techniques into practice will allow you to maintain the crisp, golden perfection of fried foods while minimizing waste and operational expenses.
